More creepy than smart

2017-09-01 09:24:10 UTC

In my opinion.

2017-09-01 09:24:35 UTC

Seb wtf

2017-09-01 09:26:18 UTC

but how can u be a good artist if you dont draw men

2017-09-01 09:27:16 UTC

Exactly

2017-09-01 09:28:47 UTC

My primary goal is just to draw what I want to draw. Which isn't men. I'd rather draw still life than men, and thats just how it is.

2017-09-01 09:29:14 UTC

I thought you wanted to draw anime?

2017-09-01 09:30:23 UTC

I'll get to drawing anime style one day. Once I'm able to draw still life and females to a decent degree of realism.

2017-09-01 09:31:03 UTC

you dont need to know realism to draw anime

2017-09-01 09:31:58 UTC

I was told the contrary by many artists, and so I stopped trying to draw anime as an entry point.

2017-09-01 09:32:14 UTC

"Gotta learn the rules of reality before I break them" is what I was told.

2017-09-01 09:33:01 UTC

eehhh

2017-09-01 09:33:57 UTC

thats partially true, but you can still just draw anime, since it seems you'd be content with drawing mediocre art

2017-09-01 09:35:12 UTC

I'd rather stick with a route that eventually leads to non mediocrity if I can.

2017-09-01 09:35:53 UTC

>but refuses to draw men
ok then

2017-09-01 09:37:03 UTC

It isnt even liking to draw women over men

2017-09-01 09:37:09 UTC

Its a complete lack of it

2017-09-01 09:37:56 UTC

@clippy but he finds them unattractive

2017-09-01 09:38:15 UTC

Like that should matter

2017-09-01 09:38:28 UTC

Youre basically drawing with your dick

2017-09-01 09:40:24 UTC

I wont deny it. I've always picked female over male ever since I could remember. Wont even play male characters in an MMO.

2017-09-01 09:42:53 UTC

I know I'd dread every moment drawing a male at all, and be dissatisfied with the work regardless of how bad or good it is.

2017-09-01 09:43:03 UTC

but in all seriousness, if you really want to be a good realist, you're gonna have to draw both men and women. But since you refuse to draw men, you're going to stay mediocre so I suggest you just draw anime. I mean it's definitely possible to become a good anime artist by just drawing a lot of anime.

2017-09-01 09:44:40 UTC

I'm unsure of how not drawing a male would hold me back any. Its basically a flattened female with bulky arms, legs, and a less rounded face.

2017-09-01 09:46:13 UTC

I find drawing all the curves in a female body far more challenging.

2017-09-01 09:49:50 UTC

If you want to argue semantics, females are basically a smaller version of a male with a larger chest and more hair.

2017-09-01 10:05:59 UTC

if you want to draw females your whole life, all the power to you. But the reason its important to learn both is to understand anatomy better, which is the core of drawing humans. For example it will help you identify why certain features may look more masculine or feminine.

2017-09-01 10:14:51 UTC

My gauge usually ends up being a mix of "does this look attractive" and "does this look close enough to the reference", and I erase if something doesn't look the part. Basically ends up filtering out any masculine characteristics in the end, since I'm not in favour of them.

2017-09-01 10:15:57 UTC

so you're always gonna draw off a reference?

2017-09-01 10:17:41 UTC

Pretty much how I've been doing it the past 54 days. Drawing from observation of images or still objects in the same room as me.

2017-09-01 10:19:58 UTC

your reliance on having a reference is going to hold you back in the future if you don't draw males as well

2017-09-01 10:21:21 UTC

Primary reason I use references is because I was told to use them to improve.

2017-09-01 10:21:56 UTC

Yea, it's good to use references, but you aren't going to forever

2017-09-01 10:30:03 UTC

Anime is all about simplifying realism, and understanding what details to neglect whilst still making someone look feminine or masculine, which is hard to know if you don't have a fundamental understanding of both sexes. The difference between a mediocre artist and a great artist is a mediocre artist blindly follows what others do but a great artist understands *why* they do it

2017-09-01 10:32:02 UTC

maybe im giving anime too much credit since its one of the easiest styles to draw, but whatever

2017-09-01 10:35:14 UTC

Theres actually a part of me that wonders if I'll even touch the anime art style anytime soon, since I only picked it out with the assumption it'd be easier than realism. And then I was quickly told otherwise, and that I needed to learn fundamentals first.

2017-09-01 10:35:59 UTC

My main context for even wanting to draw it was to be able to make reference drawings for 3D models.

2017-09-01 10:36:34 UTC

But even in the 3D space I was told to learn how to 3D model real people first.

2017-09-01 10:41:54 UTC

Ended up with a cycle of, if I wanna get good at 3D modelling people learn to draw and then 3D model reality first, and that if I wanna learn to draw, draw from reality first.

2017-09-01 11:26:28 UTC

If you wanna be a good artist at realism, you just have to draw both men and women, hell, you have to draw all sorts of stuff, kids, old people, animals, whatever. It's part of reality and it will all help you understand it and how to portray it more. If you absolutely refuse to draw males, you're preventing yourself from becoming a better artist, you're limiting yourself just because you're attracted to women only.

2017-09-01 11:28:02 UTC

And no, you don't need to know realism to draw anime. You could even start drawing anime and then move to realism because anime is a more cartoonish, simpler style.
