Using the Salem Witch Trials, the McCarthy Era, and one social/political is from current events or recent history (your lifetime) as examples, write an essay about the impact of creating and exploiting public (mass) hysteria as a means to obtain power and manipulate people. Use information from the resources (Primary Sources 1-6 in your packet from class) you have read as well as from the text of the play The Crucible. You do not have to use each of the source documents, just those with information that supports the claim you are making. You might also need to research the current/recent issue using valid online resources. Be prepared with a rough draft in class by this Friday, December 16. The final draft is due Friday, January 6 in class at the beginning of class. Early papers will be accepted before winter break.
