“Left” and “right” carry meaning in politics only where there is a clear dichotomy of opinion. In that case the centre can be considered a position unto itself
Say some guy started using your pen without asking. I could arbitrarily say that the “left” position would be to also give him your wallet and the position on the “right” would be to stab him in the neck
Merely confronting the guy and informing him that he must ask you before using your pen would lie between those extremes, but clearly isn’t a fusion of giving him your wallet and then stabbing him in the neck
Confronting the guy is clearly a view in and of itself, not the straddling of the two
