Most legitmate services never will send emails asking for your login details and actively make a point to warn you that they won't. Phishing exploits people who are not aware of this, or that don't pay attention to those warnings.

Given that, I don't think in the case of these Skype accounts, that it was phishing, because they're dead accounts that haven't been used. Some I know were abandoned in favor of new accounts. I never understood why people did that.
