The high school I went to is rebuilding its oldest section. They had to tear it down because... well... the roof was collapsing. The new main entrance now serves the school itself and the auditorium so it can be used during events open the public.

I don't think turning it into a lock down is helping. Schools are a target because it'll get them attention and fame. Adding more security just makes it a more alluring target. And in actual shootings, security didn't even slow the shooters down.
