That sounds right. The one Paki I got to know was Sufi and was pretty cool to hang out with. I also hung out with one of the Saudis who was a good programmer (he was the son of one of the princes). Most of the rest of the Saudis often smelled bad and/or got caught copying each others stuff in tests.
I've never liked Sunni Islam. Shia or Sufi Islam always seemed saner if you had to go Muslim.
Sufi's are ok. Sort of the concepts/practices of Buddhism bolted onto Shia

I've been up to Dearborn Michigan and visited a couple of mosques during a trip. The Sunni imam acted like he could backstab you at any moment, but the Shia imam was cool and we had a good conversation with him.

But in general, Shia Muslim countries (admittedly there are only two: Iran and Azerbaijan) are more tolerable than Sunni ones

Muslims in Georgia are concentrated in Adjara in the southwest (and their numbers have been going down over the decades as they convert to Christianity) and Abkhazia in the northwest (which is de facto Independent)
Chechnya is northeast of Georgia and is mostly Muslim, but Ossetia and Ingushetia are straight north and mostly Christian
