I can't speak for America but here in the UK, particularly Scotland, there is still a very male dominated culture so to speak. The men are shitheads and the women are expected to just lie down and accept it. They're not allowed to stand at the bar with the men (not illegal but a social sin), they're expected to sit in the booths/tables while the men stand around and get pissed, they're discriminated against in the work place (particularly labor jobs) and their voice doesn't hold too much weight to it in the corporate world, that's the only thing I can think of.

Thankfully that's changing now but it's still there in Scotland, here in England it's better.
