I learned it for 4 years and never retained any kanji

when i was in elementary manga was what helped me gain a lot of my kanji literacy(only reading)

because of the furigana

and how those words are what people use a lot in everyday speech

just dont rush it

For part of our final last year we had to translate a japnese newspaper which was 70% kanji

there are kanji proficiency tests and even natives struggle to pass the higher level tests.

Unless they have hiragana translations I have no idea how I’m supposed to figure out the meaning
