Ownership in general? Just depends on the person. Obviously the mentally ill should not have access. I have nothing against a stable person carrying/owning.
As far as US specifics, really all I want to see is more rigorous screening for gun ownership. I find assault weapons unnecessary. But still. The former is more important. *Shrug*.
