I’ve recently been looking at the mechanics of empires and how they relate to modern politics. A lot of people today view imperialism as a bad thing, specifically in the case of the British Empire, and systems that evolved from imperialism such as capitalism.
While I will not comment on whether or not empires are a good or bad political mechanic, I would like to go over the fact that empires are designed to take over other lands, force their ways on those lands, “steal” the resources of those lands, and other “oppressive” things. As an example, I will use the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire lived and died on its ability to maintain control of other factions and put their resources to their own uses while enforcing their own laws on the lands they controlled, and also enslave *some* individuals of the factions already inhabiting the new Roman territory.
Most people, and social justice warriors in particular will preach about how much of a bad thing this is, and point at the British Empire in particular as “proof” of an empire’s short-comings. Milo Stewart is one example of an individual placing blame on imperialism for bad things (like patriarchy) in the world, particularly “western” factions. More extreme groups such as AntiFa also call for the deconstruction of systems derived from imperialism..
My problem with this is that if we are defining empires as automatically bad, it’s not too much of a stretch to see the political mechanic of empires to be banned by the United Nations. As far as the U.N. Is concerned, if this were to be done, it would have to be enforced. In order to enforce it, they would require a military force, already against the U.N. Protocol. Additionally, as soon as they deploy military forces to enforce one of their own laws, that is by definition an imperialist action, and they, the U.N., would be in a position of hypocrisy.
The U.N. of course, is simply being used as a straw man, however, this would apply to any nation attempting to do this, and it, being the blatant hypocrisy, is something I would not tolerate if I were in control of an empire, or even by-standing nation
^^ We need a channel for politics/philosophy.
I'd ping Daniel to see if he would make it so, but...
erm...
I don't want the ban hammer
I don't really care if I get banned for it, so.
lol
you've doomed us all
Empires are bad.
HORRIBLY
Like they can barely adapt to today’s world, empires like France and Britain, they have blended in wonderfully to the modern world, France used to be a GRAND empire before WWII.
12e is bae
empires bad strategically in modern times, but I'm talking morally.
mostly...
Yeah, japan and china are the worst.
Mainly japan, they tried to conquer most of asia and they'd beat and eat most of their POWs
Ooo

What's this
A suggestion to make a text channel for politics and philosphy?
Literally all the weebos defend the SHIT out of Feudal Japan.
@Blaundee aye, I can't see it getting much use though.
indeed
on top of that
we got way too many text channel imo
Pretty sure that's just ranting bud
looking into another channel to see a related image is annoying enough
we dont need to split the conversations any further
I prefer the term "Open Editorial," but I'll take "ranting."
