This is in large part due to a cost saving comment made by the then CIO at JSC, Jack Garman, who was a sort of computer hero of Apollo 13 who said to drop use of Apples and standardize on Windows 95, and the Explorer browser (instead of NT which is the way the company and the rest of the world went). That was a dead end of course, and it was seen as a joke at Apple. This is because most of these machines are office computers. This was published in Datamation back in the mid-1990s,
