To keep it compatible for 2 gens

2019-11-21 09:00:17 UTC

Most boards do not have enough power to run 3950X

2019-11-21 09:00:43 UTC

Isn't it just 105W?

2019-11-21 09:01:29 UTC

That's 10 W more than a stock first gen r7 x

2019-11-21 09:01:50 UTC

Actually I was wrong

2019-11-21 09:03:49 UTC

I bought a high end X370 and top ryzen 7 first gen 2 years ago, assuming that I could jump to the high end zen2 after 2 years

2019-11-21 09:03:54 UTC

I feel sad

2019-11-21 09:04:03 UTC

What motherboard do you have?

2019-11-21 09:04:05 UTC

I understand it doesn't work but that kinda was the promise

2019-11-21 09:04:44 UTC

You don't know ?

2019-11-21 09:04:52 UTC

MSI X370 Gaming something

2019-11-21 09:04:59 UTC

I was trying to find out if plus or pro

2019-11-21 09:05:09 UTC

Need to scroll down purchase list on Amazon of 2 years ago

2019-11-21 09:05:33 UTC

I think Pro

2019-11-21 09:06:37 UTC

Yes pro

2019-11-21 09:06:44 UTC

MSI X370 Gaming Pro

2019-11-21 09:06:52 UTC

And a Ryzen 7 1800X

2019-11-21 09:06:54 UTC

It works with 3950x

2019-11-21 09:06:58 UTC

BUT

2019-11-21 09:07:11 UTC

you have to update bios to latest

2019-11-21 09:07:18 UTC

Otherwise your system won't boot

2019-11-21 09:07:27 UTC

Doesn't your table say nope?

2019-11-21 09:07:34 UTC

No

2019-11-21 09:07:43 UTC

It'll work

2019-11-21 09:07:59 UTC

I have x470 by asus

2019-11-21 09:08:14 UTC

And my system didnt boot before updating to latest bios

2019-11-21 09:09:17 UTC

I didn't buy the CPU yet because I read it just won't work with X370

2019-11-21 09:09:29 UTC

It does

2019-11-21 09:09:37 UTC

it'll work but the question is how well

2019-11-21 09:09:44 UTC

your motherboard wasn't designed with the power draw in mind

2019-11-21 09:09:49 UTC

that's what the table refers to

2019-11-21 09:10:29 UTC

It says minor airflow needed for 3950x for the vrms

2019-11-21 09:10:50 UTC

it says not recommended for 3950x

2019-11-21 09:11:04 UTC

You are looking at OC

2019-11-21 09:11:17 UTC

Airflow on the board, right?

2019-11-21 09:11:23 UTC

yeah, the area around the cpu socket

2019-11-21 09:11:29 UTC

where the VRMs are

2019-11-21 09:11:35 UTC

I have a front to back airflow and the CPU is watercooled

2019-11-21 09:11:47 UTC

if the cpu is watercooled you usually miss out on a lot of VRM airflow

2019-11-21 09:11:51 UTC

The area around the socket is empty, I can make some better cooling there
