But like I said it wasn't always like that
Just a note, not all militaries or even branches therein or even sections therein work that way.
They had a time where you could speak openly and honestly, and at times it could border on rebellion (ie soldiers refusing to do things that they knew were garbage), now though that shit has been snapped back in <:pepelaugh:544857300179877898>
USMC vaunted initiative very very highly as a Leadership Trait.
Basically getting shit done with whatever means available.
The US isn't nearly as cucked as the UK
resistance is futile
joins rungs to form Ohmeniga Right
It's actually baked into the structure of the Corps - with the emphasis on small unit leadership.
Can you imagine what the Swedish army does?
We had the same thing, but if you have 5 blokes under you (like I did) and one of them gets a shit tasking the first question is why some other cunt isn't doing it, usually because they are fat or broken and should therefore be doing the shit taskings
The fit ones should be kept as free as possible to go and do gym or go on trawls and shit 🤷
And a common handwave of err was, "Good initiative, bad judgment." Basically, good try, learning experience.
Everyone says they want people with initiative but they don't always actually mean that
TRUE <:pot_of_kek:544849795433496586>
Eh, though part of the Marines was basically everyone had their time doing the shitwork.
We want free thinkers
No not like that
Everyone does do shit jobs, and that is routine (at least in the UK), but if it seems like the fit ones are constantly doing it then you turn around and say "no, get one of the fat cunts doing it"
yeah initiative is a pain in the ass
Our lot literally started at 0830 and finished at 1530 because I said so <:pot_of_kek:544849795433496586>
And I didn't expect them to work more than 3 days a week
Exceptions being for trawls and shit
Damn, that's too lenient TBH. >.>
Garrison is prep for the field.
As long as the jobs are manned dude and they do it fairly their time was their own
That's why there are drills.
And "fun" runs.
And if someone further up wanted them they had to justify it, if they couldn't justify it I would tell them no
One of the things that used to drive me mad as lowly private was when your CoC thinks that they need to have you for 40+ hours a week so they keep sprog soldiers locked up in a waiting room to be shouted when needed
Millions of better things that we could of been doing (Gym, napping, learning, playing videogames, etc)
My attitude when I got rank was "go away, leave me your numbers, and be here if I call you"
Eh, that shit does suck.. though it was more like focused training time (I was in Comm, so the skills always need to be sharpened) as well as martial training skills and the like.
There really isn't all that much you can do with soldiers day to day tbh
And if you try they just end up hating the job
Cleaning weapons, maybe some lessons, PT, the odd shit job (such as maintenance) but you could do all that in the space of 20 hours a week
And if you don't give the blokes their time off for a good job why should they work hard for you- you just gonna make them do it again or send them back to the waiting room
Well, to clarify by martial training I also mean martial arts.
And sparring & going up belts on it.
