But like I said it wasn't always like that

2019-11-05 09:34:50 UTC

Just a note, not all militaries or even branches therein or even sections therein work that way.

2019-11-05 09:35:09 UTC

They had a time where you could speak openly and honestly, and at times it could border on rebellion (ie soldiers refusing to do things that they knew were garbage), now though that shit has been snapped back in <:pepelaugh:544857300179877898>

USMC vaunted initiative very very highly as a Leadership Trait.

2019-11-05 09:36:09 UTC

Basically getting shit done with whatever means available.

2019-11-05 09:36:23 UTC

The US isn't nearly as cucked as the UK

2019-11-05 09:36:26 UTC

resistance is futile

2019-11-05 09:36:47 UTC

joins rungs to form Ohmeniga Right

2019-11-05 09:36:58 UTC

It's actually baked into the structure of the Corps - with the emphasis on small unit leadership.

2019-11-05 09:37:05 UTC

Can you imagine what the Swedish army does?

2019-11-05 09:37:09 UTC

We had the same thing, but if you have 5 blokes under you (like I did) and one of them gets a shit tasking the first question is why some other cunt isn't doing it, usually because they are fat or broken and should therefore be doing the shit taskings

2019-11-05 09:37:41 UTC

The fit ones should be kept as free as possible to go and do gym or go on trawls and shit 🤷

2019-11-05 09:37:54 UTC

And a common handwave of err was, "Good initiative, bad judgment." Basically, good try, learning experience.

2019-11-05 09:38:16 UTC

Everyone says they want people with initiative but they don't always actually mean that

2019-11-05 09:38:31 UTC

TRUE <:pot_of_kek:544849795433496586>

2019-11-05 09:38:35 UTC

Eh, though part of the Marines was basically everyone had their time doing the shitwork.

2019-11-05 09:38:39 UTC

We want free thinkers

2019-11-05 09:38:41 UTC

No not like that

2019-11-05 09:39:33 UTC

Everyone does do shit jobs, and that is routine (at least in the UK), but if it seems like the fit ones are constantly doing it then you turn around and say "no, get one of the fat cunts doing it"

2019-11-05 09:39:53 UTC

yeah initiative is a pain in the ass

2019-11-05 09:40:22 UTC

some initiations too or so ive heard

2019-11-05 09:40:24 UTC

Our lot literally started at 0830 and finished at 1530 because I said so <:pot_of_kek:544849795433496586>

2019-11-05 09:40:34 UTC

And I didn't expect them to work more than 3 days a week

2019-11-05 09:40:52 UTC

Exceptions being for trawls and shit

2019-11-05 09:40:52 UTC

Damn, that's too lenient TBH. >.>

2019-11-05 09:41:13 UTC

Garrison is prep for the field.

2019-11-05 09:41:22 UTC

As long as the jobs are manned dude and they do it fairly their time was their own

2019-11-05 09:41:45 UTC

That's why there are drills.

2019-11-05 09:42:29 UTC

And "fun" runs.

2019-11-05 09:42:54 UTC

And if someone further up wanted them they had to justify it, if they couldn't justify it I would tell them no

One of the things that used to drive me mad as lowly private was when your CoC thinks that they need to have you for 40+ hours a week so they keep sprog soldiers locked up in a waiting room to be shouted when needed

2019-11-05 09:44:34 UTC

Millions of better things that we could of been doing (Gym, napping, learning, playing videogames, etc)

2019-11-05 09:45:16 UTC

My attitude when I got rank was "go away, leave me your numbers, and be here if I call you"

2019-11-05 09:45:29 UTC

Eh, that shit does suck.. though it was more like focused training time (I was in Comm, so the skills always need to be sharpened) as well as martial training skills and the like.

2019-11-05 09:46:14 UTC

There really isn't all that much you can do with soldiers day to day tbh

2019-11-05 09:46:22 UTC

And if you try they just end up hating the job

2019-11-05 09:46:56 UTC

Cleaning weapons, maybe some lessons, PT, the odd shit job (such as maintenance) but you could do all that in the space of 20 hours a week

2019-11-05 09:47:47 UTC

And if you don't give the blokes their time off for a good job why should they work hard for you- you just gonna make them do it again or send them back to the waiting room

2019-11-05 09:48:12 UTC

Well, to clarify by martial training I also mean martial arts.

2019-11-05 09:48:47 UTC

And sparring & going up belts on it.
