GOG, the site you still have to buy things (even if they're questionable)?

2019-09-29 03:47:36 UTC

eirshy

2019-09-29 03:47:39 UTC

thats the point of reviews

2019-09-29 03:48:02 UTC

.... How new are you?

2019-09-29 03:48:06 UTC

Do you like

2019-09-29 03:48:10 UTC

not remember all of Gamergate?

2019-09-29 03:48:41 UTC

(((Devs should just post their game for free with a patreon link)))

2019-09-29 03:48:58 UTC
2019-09-29 03:49:10 UTC

we'll see them make a profit then

2019-09-29 03:49:11 UTC

oh wait

2019-09-29 03:49:14 UTC

I will say that LPs did help solve a good chunk of the market watch use of Piracy

2019-09-29 03:49:32 UTC

But they didn't solve it completely

2019-09-29 03:50:01 UTC

and importantly, the way a lot of modern DRM is designed, you are reliant on the DRM provider always being in-business in order to play the game

2019-09-29 03:50:15 UTC

Which means *you* don't actually own the game you bought

2019-09-29 03:50:23 UTC

You're renting it

2019-09-29 03:50:43 UTC

okay, and if the DRM provider isnt in business, the devs should remove it afterwards

2019-09-29 03:50:45 UTC

🀷

Are some of yall not old enough to remember the Before Times, when there used to be *demo discs*?

2019-09-29 03:51:06 UTC

Devs might not be in business either at that point, and what incentive do they have to patch it out?

2019-09-29 03:51:32 UTC

sorry, i mean

2019-09-29 03:51:35 UTC

"purchasing games online"

2019-09-29 03:51:36 UTC

Fun fact: Bioshock 1 for PC, if you have the CD for it, requires you to download a crack for it in order to play it.

True enough; But the idea of offering a legitimate demo of a game was still nice.

2019-09-29 03:51:51 UTC

All because the website it looks for for DRM black holed

2019-09-29 03:51:59 UTC

i do think them offering demos would be better

2019-09-29 03:52:00 UTC

at the moment

2019-09-29 03:52:01 UTC

And there's no "official" patch to fix it

2019-09-29 03:52:05 UTC

there is just a steam 2 hour policy

2019-09-29 03:52:18 UTC

which requires you to pay them anyway

2019-09-29 03:52:19 UTC

Steam's 2hr policy is pretty good tbh

2019-09-29 03:52:28 UTC

or at least have the money on hand

2019-09-29 03:52:29 UTC

i mean

2019-09-29 03:52:45 UTC

Way better than nothing

2019-09-29 03:52:47 UTC

I just raped a little jewish boy, what's poppin in here?

I don't think anyone here is arguing that a company shouldn't be compensated for it's product, n' all; But the consumers are just increasingly getting le shaft from the crossfire between the Yarr-Harr-Fiddly-Dee lads and the companies.

2019-09-29 03:53:08 UTC

i do think it would be better if devs gave out a demo link on the sale page, maybe a segment of the game or a 2 hour trial on its own

2019-09-29 03:53:10 UTC

I wish it was a little more permissive for the consumer, but they mandate that all games support it, so that's nice.

2019-09-29 03:53:14 UTC

i think my old pc still has the postal 2 demo on it

2019-09-29 03:53:31 UTC
2019-09-29 03:53:32 UTC

There's no reason for them to release a demo though
