Even garrisoned it doesn't necessarily oppress those around it

2019-09-29 04:03:18 UTC

DRM always oppresses the legitimate user

2019-09-29 04:03:38 UTC

It physically *cannot **not*** oppress the legitimate user

2019-09-29 04:03:47 UTC

What was it... the Brits built castles throughout Wales, one line forward at a time, because the Welsh couldn't bust castles and over time the Welsh civilians acclimated to the English in their towns.

2019-09-29 04:03:51 UTC

@UnfilteredGarbage i'll talk about this more in a bit, busy rn

2019-09-29 04:03:58 UTC

Victory Through Incessant Occupation

2019-09-29 04:05:06 UTC

@Calbeck thats actually what i think is the best plan for solving the sandland problem, but russia/china would complain

2019-09-29 04:05:25 UTC

yup

2019-09-29 04:05:51 UTC

@Eirshy the people who have a vested interest in not having the game pirated are still legitimate users of the game software, though. DRM oppresses 99% of its audience for the benefit of the designer, just like a castle in that regard.

2019-09-29 04:06:18 UTC

Syria: people forget that Russia's there because the Assad regime provides them with Russia's ONLY Mediterranean port, and losing it would fly in the face of their national aims/goals going back to the goddamn Ottoman era

2019-09-29 04:06:36 UTC

@UnfilteredGarbage No, because the *castle itself is not oppressing anyone*

2019-09-29 04:06:44 UTC

Additionally

2019-09-29 04:06:49 UTC

@UnfilteredGarbage we need to rephrase this for his tiny brain

2019-09-29 04:06:52 UTC

THe castle isn't treating the peasants as enemies

2019-09-29 04:06:54 UTC

*standing guards*

2019-09-29 04:07:00 UTC

Putin is not going to lose a key power-projection base for the Russian Navy, no matter how technically valueless it really is.

2019-09-29 04:07:10 UTC

The people in the castle aren't treating the peasants as enemies either

2019-09-29 04:07:13 UTC

Subjects yes

2019-09-29 04:07:16 UTC

Enemies no

2019-09-29 04:07:22 UTC

DRM treats all parties as foes

2019-09-29 04:07:25 UTC

well, think of it this way

2019-09-29 04:07:26 UTC

@Eirshy it's oppressing my ability to walk in a straight line across a geographic area
Also, a castle is not *a castle* unless it is fulfilling its intended function, which means being staffed and operated

2019-09-29 04:07:36 UTC

DRM makes the game run somewhat worse, I.E taxation

2019-09-29 04:07:42 UTC

Teleology

2019-09-29 04:07:46 UTC

Bitch

2019-09-29 04:07:54 UTC

...are we edging into "I'm not driving I'm travelling" territory?

2019-09-29 04:07:56 UTC

No

2019-09-29 04:08:00 UTC

Not even somewhat worse

2019-09-29 04:08:02 UTC

but it offers fortification against piracy (castle walls)

2019-09-29 04:08:08 UTC

It can literally prevent you from running the game

2019-09-29 04:08:14 UTC

if your computer runs like shit

2019-09-29 04:08:15 UTC

yes

2019-09-29 04:08:15 UTC
2019-09-29 04:08:16 UTC

No

2019-09-29 04:08:20 UTC

2019-09-29 04:08:21 UTC

2019-09-29 04:08:24 UTC

yeah im fuckin lost ay

2019-09-29 04:08:26 UTC

It can LITERALLY BLOCK YOU from running the game

2019-09-29 04:08:31 UTC

are you a pirate?

2019-09-29 04:08:36 UTC

is this game from 2002?

2019-09-29 04:08:44 UTC

Most DRM these days runs at least an internet location check
