so do industrialists
The idea is usually that
But time is _relative_
everyone lies about timescale
“If we had unlimited funding, we could do this in 30 years”
because they get more funding
the longer they prolong it
But then
scientists with unlimited funding use it on stupid shit
proven fact
“With this funding we could do it in 50”
Engineers despise that thinking. You want on-time and under-budget.
Ye crazy how a world war lunged is forward in technology
Okay, I'm going to go out to get something to eat
well spending a ton on the project
Because then time scale wasn’t an option
Exactly
would just prove how unuseful the test is for commercial purposes
ina ll fairness tho
theyre just trying to prove theories
theyre not tryingto build something useful
Those were fun
Like fusion reactors exist so I presume the logic is they scale
the problem with them has always been the density
afaik
and density by definition doesnt scale
I’m no expert but I suppose we will find out
yes we will
im sure they know what theyre doing
When it comes to hitting walls, fusion has been a very obnoxious one to get over
but i think theyre overestimating its capabilities
I just think dismissing stuff is a bit silly
its not dismissal
its skepticism
Its worth talking about at least
Humanity evolves from conflict
Totally worth trying all the options sure
We're either overestimating the capability of fusion, or misinterpreting how the Sun works
Seeing a net energy gain from fusion is a good step forward
