yeah. itā€™s because the lamestream media picks and chooses what material to showcase. they overemphasize the NSFW content while blatantly ignoring the other stuff which is more predominant if you pay attention

2019-09-15 11:41:34 UTC

the same as mickey mouse would most likely be at a disney-themed park

2019-09-15 11:43:35 UTC

people wear their suits in public all the time. itā€™s because they like to see the smiles it brings to an otherwise dreary world or because itā€™s sadly the only way they feel able to fully express themselves. furry is such a huge subject that you do it a disservice by simply saying itā€™s NSFW

2019-09-15 11:44:35 UTC

i never said the non-nsfw stuff was nsfw

2019-09-15 11:45:43 UTC

or that it was simply nsfw

2019-09-15 11:46:37 UTC

the justification of furry = nsfw just because itā€™s whatā€™s typically showcased via major media outlets is what iā€™m addressing.

2019-09-15 11:46:38 UTC

i just said they're known for the relatively large presence of nsfw material in the community

2019-09-15 11:47:20 UTC

but yeah i get what you mean

2019-09-15 11:48:31 UTC

furry isn't just about nsfw

2019-09-15 11:49:41 UTC

itā€™s become such a major blanket description that completely covers up the actual good these people do in their communities. everything from making kids smile to donating to animal welfare charities gets overlooked because ā€œomg. they draw animals with peepees.ā€ thatā€™s really only one part of the bigger picture.

2019-09-15 11:51:01 UTC

yes

2019-09-15 11:51:03 UTC

i agree

2019-09-15 11:53:16 UTC

iā€™m not denying that the porn and weird fetishes exist. i know they do. but they also exist in normal non furry communities too. itā€™s part of the human condition. we all have something that turns us on whether we call ourselves furry or not. itā€™s kinda silly to ignore the miles of porn shops that existed long before furry was even a widely known thing

2019-09-15 11:53:21 UTC

i don't think it's ā€œomg. they draw animals with peepees.ā€ it's more like "omg they're zoophiles"

2019-09-15 11:54:01 UTC

and im not a furry so it could be a misrepresentation

2019-09-15 11:54:09 UTC

and it's probably not true for most furries

2019-09-15 11:56:05 UTC

furry doesnā€™t = zoophile either. not for everyone. iā€™m sure there are some, but i have yet to meet any. again, that is such a small chunk of the whole community and there is one in particular who was outed as being pretty brutal in that department. no one in the community who knows about it condones that behavior.

2019-09-15 11:56:26 UTC

did you mean ā‰

2019-09-15 11:56:27 UTC

lol

2019-09-15 11:56:59 UTC

yeah. canā€™t do that on a phone and discord removed the slash lol

2019-09-15 11:57:09 UTC

oh lol

2019-09-15 11:57:12 UTC

ok

2019-09-15 11:59:44 UTC

there are more zoophile cases i know of from (until told otherwise) non furries than i personally know of from fellow furries, so to say weā€™re zoophiles just because we choose to represent ourselves with a cartoon animal is very wrong

2019-09-15 12:01:38 UTC

yeah

2019-09-15 12:02:02 UTC

you can't really tell if someone is a zoophile unless they say so though

2019-09-15 12:02:17 UTC

or if they commit beastiality

2019-09-15 12:02:53 UTC

for some furries, they choose a specific animal because they feel some kind of connection to it. they feel they are able to relate better to - say a fox - than to fellow humans. honestly, i see it as a coping mechanism many people fall to. there are a lot of broken and hurting people in the fandom and they seek strength from the like minded support of others in the community

2019-09-15 12:04:42 UTC

myself, i like the creativity of many of the characters and i enjoy making my own personas. i go through a lot. lol

2019-09-15 12:10:26 UTC

i do admit that i have had moments where i have fallen out of the enchantment of the fandom. it is certainly not what it used to be when i officially started calling myself furry. it has taken a much deeper turn toward the adult themes which is the opposite of what drew me to it. but i still associate with the term because i still find it fun to see myself as an anthropomorphic critter. itā€™s a fantasy daydream to help make reality a bit more exciting. so i guess you could say i also use it as an escape, but less so because of mental trauma and more to help further my creative mindset.

2019-09-15 12:14:47 UTC

sorry. iā€™m done now. xD

2019-09-15 12:17:20 UTC

the idea of spirit animals as existed for ages

2019-09-15 12:20:00 UTC

yes. that is true. and the egyptians frequently depicted their gods with animal like traits. i think it has only been in recent years with the emergence of the furry subculture that it has been treated as some weird fetish to be afraid of

2019-09-15 12:22:00 UTC

and then thereā€™s anime i guess. lol

2019-09-15 12:22:39 UTC

iā€™m just gon preface that with japan is weird and move on.

2019-09-15 12:24:12 UTC

but we all need a little weird now and then. *stashes her anime under the bed*

2019-09-15 12:34:21 UTC
