I'd been thinking about a concept for a constitutional monarchy that does a sort of co-executive thing with the monarch and an elected president

2019-09-16 02:02:29 UTC

not really a serious "I think this is a thing that should be implemented" kind of idea, though

2019-09-16 02:02:52 UTC

but it does seem like there'd be a couple advantages

2019-09-16 02:03:55 UTC

I'd say the speeches from this anime can apply to today

2019-09-16 02:05:20 UTC

Personally I'm bracing myself for an immortal A.I. construct out of San Francisco to just sieze power

2019-09-16 02:05:53 UTC

Skynet

2019-09-16 02:06:03 UTC

Or Cortana

2019-09-16 02:06:20 UTC

It'll be that but funded by Facebook

2019-09-16 02:07:01 UTC

Although kosch, your idea sounds pretty similar to the uk but I'm guessing with tweaks

2019-09-16 02:07:07 UTC

Like a Constitution for one

2019-09-16 02:07:28 UTC

the power would be shared more equally

2019-09-16 02:07:36 UTC

I know the queen does have power

2019-09-16 02:07:38 UTC

but it's not a lot

2019-09-16 02:08:09 UTC

that said, the idea was more based around the american system, so I don't know how well certain things translate

2019-09-16 02:09:32 UTC

But that's a point though

2019-09-16 02:09:43 UTC

The UK could really use a written constitution IMO

2019-09-16 02:10:55 UTC

Far as I'm aware, the "unwritten constitution" is basically just centuries of legal precedent, which doesn't sound like a great thing to hang your entire government on.

2019-09-16 02:12:19 UTC

Yeah it's easily undone

2019-09-16 02:12:41 UTC

See: Tommy Robinson, Dankula etc

2019-09-16 02:13:04 UTC

Imho, they should get rid of the monarchy

2019-09-16 02:13:40 UTC

Imho yes that too even though I'm rather fond of the queen

2019-09-16 02:14:02 UTC

That being said

2019-09-16 02:14:38 UTC

It is pretty cool that the PM has someone to talk to whose seen all heads of government for the last several decades

2019-09-16 02:15:17 UTC

At least the Japanese Imperial Family is more stable than the British monarchy

2019-09-16 02:15:18 UTC

But paying them millions is not lit at all

2019-09-16 02:17:28 UTC

How about Democratizing the monarchy? The regent becomes another elected office, you can only run if nominated by petition, and it is an office for life with the same powers of the current queen. And it gives that stability of monarchy and the protection against it being a family business

2019-09-16 02:18:23 UTC

Honestly I think it having no term limit could be dangerous

2019-09-16 02:18:52 UTC

But if no money or actual power were involved, and if they could be voted out too

2019-09-16 02:19:01 UTC

A purely advisory role

2019-09-16 02:19:13 UTC

I would be interested in seeing where that goes

2019-09-16 02:19:46 UTC

But you can't put yourself forward to run. Enough people would want you to rule. You'd still be essentially a puppet of parliament, but the regents current position is to represent the Nations intended culture

2019-09-16 02:20:08 UTC

Oooo I like that

2019-09-16 02:20:27 UTC

I can have a few decent ideas on weed

2019-09-16 02:20:27 UTC

The idea of not being able to put yourself forward for office

2019-09-16 02:20:34 UTC

Hhahhaha

2019-09-16 02:20:41 UTC

Legalize!!!

2019-09-16 02:21:33 UTC

Queens getting up there and I'm not particularly fond of any of the potential heirs. Might as well get it done now

2019-09-16 02:21:48 UTC

My government lost $42 million SELLING legal weed

2019-09-16 02:21:57 UTC
