as any kind of useful thing lol

2019-08-13 04:36:44 UTC

not the same thing

2019-08-13 04:36:56 UTC

Fusion isn't going to be possible in a sustainable manner

2019-08-13 04:37:02 UTC

not anytime soon

2019-08-13 04:37:04 UTC

they have run an ACTUAL molten salt reactor at Oakidge

2019-08-13 04:37:12 UTC

and it didnt end up going so well

2019-08-13 04:37:12 UTC

iirc

2019-08-13 04:37:17 UTC

they have never got fusion to be a net +

2019-08-13 04:37:20 UTC

salt derived from SJW tears

2019-08-13 04:37:28 UTC

Ahh

2019-08-13 04:37:35 UTC

thats only because they are still experimenting with containment for fusion

2019-08-13 04:37:36 UTC

We'll eventually crack fusion, but we need to plan on it not happening for another century or two.

How do we solve the energy crisis, if fusion is 100-200 years away?

2019-08-13 04:37:37 UTC

it DID go so welll

2019-08-13 04:37:40 UTC

technology advances take time to work out the bugs

2019-08-13 04:37:49 UTC

I remember when the donald sent like 2 tonnes of salt to CNN headquarters

2019-08-13 04:38:02 UTC

haha

2019-08-13 04:38:07 UTC

lol what else is there outside of containment fusion?

2019-08-13 04:38:14 UTC

u want a gravity well on earth?

2019-08-13 04:38:18 UTC

When exactly do we expect an energy crisis though

2019-08-13 04:38:19 UTC

fun

2019-08-13 04:38:21 UTC

millions of gerbils

2019-08-13 04:38:26 UTC

earth is a gravity well

2019-08-13 04:38:39 UTC

not suffficent for fusion

2019-08-13 04:38:59 UTC

theyre experimenting with different things is all i can say

2019-08-13 04:39:00 UTC

its going to have to be a mix of sources depending on what is locally avaliable

2019-08-13 04:39:05 UTC

such as?

2019-08-13 04:39:06 UTC

im no lead MIT researcher my dude

2019-08-13 04:39:06 UTC

@ManAnimal - Fusion is possible, and it will happen, but we've been saying it's "30 years away" for the past 50 years. I think 100 years is a more realistic time scale. It's going to take time, but eventually we WILL crack the problem.

2019-08-13 04:39:10 UTC

The world is going to look very different in 100 years let alone 200

2019-08-13 04:39:12 UTC

such as magnets

2019-08-13 04:39:12 UTC

move to a more distributed system

2019-08-13 04:39:14 UTC

for one

2019-08-13 04:39:19 UTC

I mean look at our world 200 years ago

2019-08-13 04:39:37 UTC

No indoor toilets.

I don't want to think about that.

2019-08-13 04:39:38 UTC

@Arthur Grayborn i'd agree with that; 100 yrs... by which time prolly won't matter

2019-08-13 04:39:40 UTC

No cars no planes fucking nothing

2019-08-13 04:39:59 UTC

lots of cholera

2019-08-13 04:40:02 UTC

they had bicycles

2019-08-13 04:40:05 UTC

😃

2019-08-13 04:40:07 UTC

Like it wasn't that long ago that everyone was using horse and cart ffs

2019-08-13 04:40:08 UTC

mmmmm....cholera
