I'd argue the degredation of morals happened independently of religion, it's more a result of increasing city life and thus accessibility to immoral behavior

For example, alcoholics are not alcoholics if they don't have access to alcohol. It has been proven that the best way to fight alcoholism is to make sure there's never a drop of alcohol nearby. Put a glass of vodka on the table and it's gonna be empty in under a minute, probably.

Urban vs rural

Yep, in rural areas they don't have direct access to a wild lifestyle, so their culture will naturally tend towards conservatism.

One huge factor in the city is that you can't know a lot of people relatively speaking. So things like reputation are hugely diminished.

Or take access to strip clubs, casinos, etc.

They're built in areas with many people for a reason
