Also that.

2019-08-05 06:11:23 UTC

it could just be 0.00067% more giraffe than its parents

2019-08-05 06:11:28 UTC

I used smol numbers, not to scale

2019-08-05 06:14:05 UTC

Not to mention Giraffes, particularly Bull Giraffes, have other survival advantages. Such as being extremely dangerous to Lions.

2019-08-05 06:16:03 UTC

Inb4 pugs aren't descended from wolves because wolves have way bigger hearts <:hyperthink:462282519883284480>

2019-08-05 06:18:43 UTC

No, it's like expecting a Dire Wolf out of a Great Dane.

2019-08-05 06:20:07 UTC

Or a great dane out of a normal wolf? <:smugon:512048583806025739>

2019-08-05 06:20:08 UTC

What about a Great Dane out of a Dire Wolf?

2019-08-05 06:21:03 UTC

Aurochs, the organism from which modern european stock cows are descended, was fucking *bigger than Buffalo*

2019-08-05 06:21:51 UTC

Also technically we made a direwolf out of a wolf

2019-08-05 06:22:16 UTC

Czechoslovakian wolfdog, looks almost like a wolf, is bigger by about half

2019-08-05 06:22:48 UTC

I think your problem with evolution is that you fail to see it as a process.

2019-08-05 06:23:42 UTC

You expect instant results when really it waffles on for millions of years and every now and then it encounters a dead end that it takes a few hundred thousand to restart.

2019-08-05 06:24:17 UTC

There's a pretty substantial range of diversity feasible in an organism without having those changes necessarily be complimentary

2019-08-05 06:25:43 UTC

I mean, imagine thinking that if a man has a son who is 3 inches taller than him, that son will die before he reproduces because of the risk that his heart isn't perfectly optimized to that difference in stature.

2019-08-05 06:38:34 UTC

FYI, GoT direwolves were played by northern inuit dogs

2019-08-05 07:01:38 UTC

Like McKenzie river wolves?

2019-08-05 07:01:55 UTC

Those dogs are massive

2019-08-05 07:04:47 UTC

Mackenzie valley, misremembered the name

2019-08-05 07:05:37 UTC

There's a guy who breeds them in my town

2019-08-05 07:07:10 UTC

When I said northern inuit dog, I meant northern inuit dog :P https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Inuit_Dog

2019-08-05 07:07:53 UTC

It's he muttiest mutt

2019-08-05 07:07:58 UTC

But also a wolf

2019-08-05 07:09:09 UTC

Didn't know it was a specific breed, it sounds like a group of breeds is why I asked, Mackenzie wolves were used by Inuits as nursing dogs because they have a oddly open maternal instinct. They care for children of any kind

2019-08-05 07:11:48 UTC

If anyone is to own a wolf you better spend most of your days outside with it.

2019-08-05 07:12:29 UTC

Bonding is important with the more wild breeds

2019-08-05 07:44:50 UTC

memes aside, what is the right wing argument for dealing with public shootings other than arming everyone else

2019-08-05 07:49:24 UTC

Disavowing the actions and not shifting the responsibility of the shooters actions to someone else. And then addressing the reasons they gave as separate issues.

2019-08-05 07:49:43 UTC

Like normal people

2019-08-05 07:53:58 UTC

thats barely a solution as it offers nothing to dis-incentivize people from committing the same things in the future

2019-08-05 08:01:22 UTC

There's no solution yet, that reaction is how a dialogue is opened to find a solution though. But it takes both sides discussing it instead of shifting blame and focusing on uninvolved issues to make progress towards an answer. Basically until the left wing stops being reactionary obstructionists we're unlikely to get a solution.

2019-08-05 10:34:59 UTC

they need a cause to die for tbh

2019-08-05 10:35:14 UTC

that might be part of it

2019-08-05 10:35:19 UTC

maybe not die for but

2019-08-05 10:35:44 UTC

Theodore Roosevelt lamented about the end of the wild west and how young men wouldn't have adventure any more

2019-08-05 10:36:12 UTC

and we had WW1 and WW2, korea and vietnam

2019-08-05 10:36:18 UTC

and they all had their own bad effects

2019-08-05 10:36:28 UTC

but it might be that we're just too comfortable

2019-08-05 10:37:14 UTC

not many people comparatively have fought in Iraq/Afghanistan or been affected directly by the wars there

2019-08-05 10:38:41 UTC

go to boxing

2019-08-05 10:38:50 UTC

get punched a lot, have a goal
