That professor expained idioms, jokes and just plain logic of the language to me

That's the best thing you can do to a learner

I get idioms mixed up all the time

rather embarrassing at times

one time I said "stand tall on your own 2 shoulders"

Once you get a grasp of slang, innuendos, jokes and idioms, you are on a pretty good language level

You can actually think in it at that stage

Yeah I have a fantastic grasp of english but I just get my words fucked up and mix words

I do it im my mother tongue too

And sometimes a word from one language cockblocks another

English is my only language and i fuck it up a lot

I didn't learn my "native" tongue to any proficiency before I was shipped off to AU

Not trying to be an ass, just have no such experience and it just sounds so alien to me

I had a friend who was shit at all 4 of her languages though

well I was barely school age when I moved to an english speaking country and never had the need to learn any other language

She spoke Lithuanian, Russian, Romanian and German, but none of those well in spoken form and even worse when it came to writing

It could be she had some undiagnosed learning condition though
