@Jokerfaic the UBI?
no, universal health insurance / medicare for all
though UBI is a coin toss if it works or not, from what I understand
I think I read that a city in California did a limited test run. It mad people feel better but had no noticeable impact on reducing unemployment or increasing the number of people working.
though if AI and automated manufacturing keep progressing, its gonna be a necessity
not in the near future, maybe, but still
@Jokerfaic yang's VERY on point about that, and that being the reason why he's pushing for the ubi
I think for healthcare it should all go to the states if it doesn’t already
not with single-digit cyclical unemployment
also, submitting to something like UBI would only make sense if you think that we are in final-stage tech development
reminds me of judge dredd comics, where 98% of MC1 is unemployed and on basic income from the government, and so the government encourages them to find literally anything to do with their time
*anything not outlawed
because almost everything has been delegated to robots
Am I the only one who sees the states as mini countries, like they’re such unique places I think just pushing some uniform policies across all of them is too... impractical for lack of a better word
prior to the clear political divides happening post-2016 I wouldn't have said so
@evannthegreat1 you're not, but there is also a lot of people who don't see it that way.
IIRC, the state’s have been called the “laboratories” of democracy...a place to test these sort of things out. California is ready to test ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that involves spending other people’s money
They have done a bang up job on testing “high speed rail”...building a high speed train that goes nowhere important
be fair, california is home to hollywood, so really most of that "other people's money" has been movie sales
not recently, but still
They got plenty of Obama money for that high speed rail project and it has not delivered on the benchmarks that were requirements for those grants
it'd be nice if we had something on par with japanese high speed rail
I don’t think I’d ever want to live in Cali, the whole vibe just throws me off
Like I’m a liberal dude
@Jokerfaic The US could really use a high speed rail network, to bad your government is too incompetent.
but by the nature of japanese bureacracy, I suppose it makes sense why they got it so fast
Japan is a compact country. High speed is cost effective there. Not so much in the US...maybe for the Northeast corridor from DC to NYC but not in many other places
well what about a continental rail? coast to coast
Too expensive for high speed, too far apart when you can fly that distance much faster for the same or lower cost
I think they determined that even with a LA to SF high speed line you could cover the distance faster by air and for the same or lower cost
And that included the times passing through TSA checkpoints

the government bulldozed all its tv dishes, why the fuck would they tolerate phone braodcast
Distance from NYC to LA I’d over 2400 miles as the crow flies. At 200 mph it would still take over 12 hours by high speed rail
The thot is taunting us...

I was thinking seattle to DC, but ok
I just picked the two largest cities, point to point
