Certain (not all) of the temperature datasets are provided by ground-based weather stations, which have been there for years, decades in many cases.

Over the years, these stations have ended up surrounded by urban development. Where you have urban development, the temperature rises because roads/buildings hold heat

Thus they over-report temperature compared to when they were undeveloped

Additionally they have been going through datasets systematically chopping out old data that looks "cold"

The only temperature dataset that can be trusted is the SATELLITE datasets, which show increases in temperature, but not at nearly the world-ending rates put forward by the media and establishment
