I don't want to watch a fucking game as a soap opera cry for the entire game

2019-11-14 22:28:57 UTC

So, a question for all you PC gaming geeks. I currently have a GTX 1060 3GB running, after having built an entirely new system. It's the only part left over from my old one, and given how I've gotten a 4k TV to use as a monitor, you can see how I'm anxious to get something more powerful to (possibly) game well enough in 4k, or at least pretty well in 2k.

Given all the above, my core system specs are as follows: Ryzen 3 3700X, AsRock Pro4 X570 motherboard, and 16GB of G-Skill Ripjaws V 3200 RAM. The PSU is an 850W G-Skill, so power shouldn't be an issue.

So, should I spring for something like an RTX 2070 Super, or perhaps something a little higher up the 10-series like a 1080 (which is still more expensive than the 2070)? Or, should I wait for the *next* generation of nVidia cards, and make do?

Thanks, but that doesn't really answer my question.

2019-11-14 22:58:23 UTC

I know it doesn't, it's just something new.

2019-11-14 22:58:31 UTC

ok

2019-11-14 23:04:41 UTC

Not answer either but....Have got RTX 2080. Would recommend. Got bundled with built PC as could not deal with build as too much to juggle. Can play _most_ optimized games 4K (3860x 2180 or whatever) on max or near at 60fps

2019-11-14 23:05:36 UTC

Is very expensive though as prob know. Dealt with potato for a long time and had to shell out

2019-11-14 23:05:59 UTC

Yeah.

2019-11-14 23:06:24 UTC

Always gonna be new GPU but RTX is apparently a big leap lots apparently to do with manufacturing process

2019-11-14 23:06:36 UTC

That's why I was looking at the 2070 Super. Guy at the shop said it basically runs equivalent to a 1080 or something similar, but costs half as much.

2019-11-14 23:07:06 UTC

Sounds good

2019-11-14 23:07:31 UTC

My only qualm is that someone I talked to said that my motherboard is going to be a huge bottleneck, so it isn't worth getting any RTX cards.

2019-11-14 23:07:32 UTC

Is hard to pull trigger though. I am rather neurotic

2019-11-14 23:07:47 UTC

OIC

2019-11-14 23:08:02 UTC

I'm more prone to making a stupid impulse buy, or else going with the first thing the salesman recommends if it isn't something I've already got my eye on.

2019-11-14 23:08:19 UTC

My question has more to do with whether I should listen to that guy or not.

2019-11-14 23:08:52 UTC

I am not really that well versed on intricacies. Have a wide range of info but mile wide inch deep

2019-11-14 23:08:56 UTC

I don't see why it should be, since the X570s are brand new.

2019-11-14 23:09:05 UTC

Yeah, I'm the same way.

2019-11-14 23:09:21 UTC

Sure. It is hard to know. It is very esoteric

2019-11-14 23:09:41 UTC

I mean, they all come with PCIe 4.0.

2019-11-14 23:10:01 UTC

You know more than me. I am already out of my depth

2019-11-14 23:10:02 UTC

AFAIK, no cards use 4.0, they still use 3.0.

2019-11-14 23:10:28 UTC

My current system, with Windows 10, should in theory run DirectX 12.

2019-11-14 23:11:37 UTC

Is there a way to get it check and send back if unsure? Unsure how consumer rights are where you are

2019-11-14 23:12:15 UTC

I got it back in August, so no. It's well past its return date.

2019-11-14 23:12:22 UTC

There's nothing wrong with the mobo.

2019-11-14 23:12:36 UTC

And I built it out of parts bought separately.

2019-11-14 23:12:45 UTC

My PC, that is.

2019-11-14 23:13:29 UTC

Fairs enough. I mean get new card. Check. Go "Dont really fancy it". Put in box. Send back "Here you go GW here is your money"

2019-11-14 23:13:47 UTC

Kinda scenario

2019-11-14 23:13:51 UTC

Kek.

2019-11-14 23:13:55 UTC

I get you.

2019-11-14 23:14:09 UTC

I don't really know much about benchmarks, tbh.

2019-11-14 23:14:18 UTC

Me neither

2019-11-14 23:14:49 UTC

Though overall, I know my new system with 4k TV runs infinitely better, faster, smoother than my ten-year-old PC based around a 1st-gen Core i7.

2019-11-14 23:15:26 UTC

I relied on my bro checking was good PC. I used to build back in the day of pentiums. Lost will to get in deep

2019-11-14 23:15:43 UTC

Yeah. I built my last PC, as well as this one.

2019-11-14 23:15:54 UTC

I can put wires in right place and flash a BIOS

2019-11-14 23:16:03 UTC

I just RTFM.
