the only good thing from the series is putting real faces to the characters names

I'm not even disagreeing that the books are probably better. I wouldn't know, as I never read them and likely never will. My interest in fiction is what I can learn from them spiritually and practically. Towards that end, if I can get "good enough" lessons from someone that takes less time to consume, I prefer that.
