nothing but state message

2019-09-16 23:40:06 UTC

poor baby saudis and oh by the way this will magically cause a shortage in the US because reasons

2019-09-16 23:40:23 UTC

If you are in N America and have any sort of energy shortage it is because you made making energy illegal (So Canada and California basically)

2019-09-16 23:40:29 UTC

but then again it was CBS, they're not even a big player

2019-09-16 23:43:44 UTC

all over the media, the narrative has already been crafted

2019-09-16 23:44:19 UTC

"Saudi Arabia victim, Iran unprovoked perpetrator, Houthi rebels? Never heard of them. Yemen? Where's that, I don't have a map."

2019-09-16 23:46:45 UTC

Why not just let Saudi Arabia hire American mercenaries?

2019-09-16 23:47:08 UTC

Their own troops can't fight for shit regardless of how well equipped they are.

2019-09-16 23:50:57 UTC

as repulsive as that sounds, it does square better than pimping the US military around for them

2019-09-16 23:52:14 UTC

though private companies could arguably be easier to hold to account for war crimes, so they might find them innefficient

2019-09-16 23:53:23 UTC

on the topic though, when have the saudi military exercized force against anyone but their own people

2019-09-16 23:53:41 UTC

have they ever had an proper war?

2019-09-16 23:54:36 UTC

don't think so.

2019-09-16 23:55:32 UTC

Well I mean Iran probably is behind it. Iran and SA have been fighting a proxy war for a while. Targeting each other's oil infrastructure is just smart. It's the only thing either of them have that outside powers want. And I mean it's not like Iran is any less of a soft target there. You can take Kharg Island out with a precocious Cub Scout Troop....

2019-09-16 23:55:43 UTC

But beyond their lack of direct experience, there's this: <https://www.meforum.org/441/why-arabs-lose-wars>

2019-09-16 23:58:16 UTC

was anyone killed during this attack on oil facilities?

2019-09-16 23:59:05 UTC

Well it would be a miracle if a refinery fire of that size had no casualties.

2019-09-16 23:59:11 UTC

literally page searching "kill" "dead" "deaths" on news about it, finding nothing

2019-09-16 23:59:54 UTC

"casualites" similarly not mentioned

2019-09-17 00:00:20 UTC

so yet more lethal force threatened for what amounts to a big fireworks display

2019-09-17 00:01:21 UTC

Gonna start offering US politicians a trip to visit the memorial of one Rudolf Anderson Jr.

2019-09-17 00:01:51 UTC

and explain to his headstone why we should go to war over zero loss of life when the world didn't end over his

2019-09-17 00:02:41 UTC
2019-09-17 00:03:13 UTC

`The only person killed by enemy fire during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Anderson died when his U-2 spy aircraft was shot down over Cuba.` is the end of that sentence.

2019-09-17 00:03:26 UTC

Thank you.

2019-09-17 00:03:41 UTC

np, I'm accommodating like that

2019-09-17 00:06:04 UTC

Oh I doubt we're going to war over it. This is just the new normal. Basically we don't give a shit if the Saudis and Persians decide to have a bloody knife fight and so they are going to get to it. Mostly that affects Asian supply and gives an opportunity for us to enter that market.

Does seem to be a bit more leverage on China though them being the world's largest oil importer and all........

2019-09-17 00:07:01 UTC

you underestimate the billions the Saudis have funneled into trump's hotels

2019-09-17 00:07:22 UTC

but the China angle does give some comfort, lets go with that

2019-09-17 00:07:33 UTC

Uh, it ain't just Trump the Saudis have been funding. Far from it, in fact.

2019-09-17 00:07:54 UTC

oh congress has saudi cum all over their lips, no doubt

2019-09-17 00:07:58 UTC

IIRC, Shillary and the Bushes (especially the Bushes) were buddy-buddy with them.

2019-09-17 00:08:14 UTC

Yeah but the American people are tired of war

2019-09-17 00:08:28 UTC

Indeed we are.

2019-09-17 00:08:32 UTC

save for Rand Paul and some democrats too socialist to bother with foreign policy

2019-09-17 00:08:48 UTC

But it does make me giggle a little, when people complain about the Saudis shoving money up someone's ass.

2019-09-17 00:08:53 UTC

We were freindly with them when we *weren't* the largest petroleum exporter on the planet.......

2019-09-17 00:09:01 UTC

I can't wait for the USA to fall back into isolationism and disappear from the world stage.

2019-09-17 00:09:03 UTC

They shove money up ***everysone's*** asses.

2019-09-17 00:09:06 UTC

They’d pragmatingly vote for war to get people to want change
