Oh also Italy. But Italy barely counts
lul the Italian 'empire'
I think it was just Libya and Ethiopia
To be fair, lybia and eritria were both profitable and well integrated
Ethiopia and Somalia less so XD
And the Albanian occupation cost money ofc
I love how the British invaded Ethiopia and didnt bother to colonise it
But in general the Italian empire project was stupid
They were nowhere near good enough to actually make anything of it
I mean, the only colonies profitable to the UK were the dominions, girbraltar, Egypt (cause Suez) and some parts of india
Most of the empire esp in Africa was map painting at the cost of actual prosperity
But muh $45 trillion fron India
More than that was spent on infrastructure alone
and yeah the Africa colonising was mostly for Dick measuring and anti-slavery
as well as diamond mines for Companies like Rhodes
Only a few costal/very rich areas of India were worth the costs
plus indians smell bad and we were likke.... naaahhhh
Too bad diamonds are intrinsically worthless and the practice of diamonds for proposal jewelery popped off in the 50s
but muh Koh-ri-noor
Well it was in pre industrial times
The Empire which gave massive power projection meaning we could enforce our will onto others wasn't worth it?
For example.
It wasn't proffitable is more fair to say
Tfw even 18 year olds hate Corbyn
Purely economically I mean
Ah
To be honest, we had more of an ideological / moral reason for the Empire
We saw it as our duty to uplift and civilise those under our control
I mean. America is doing a neocolonial empire
Time will tell if that works any better
ehh the motive varied quite widely on where and when your talking about
It was certainly true for Africa
Initially it was slaves, then it became that.
eg. In India it was mainly about wealth but in Africa it was more for morals
esp. for slavery
Yep
But there was usually at least 1 eye on more material concerns
