I've been screwed over by people who advertised too generously before.

What have they asked that you can't do?

well, it's a 12 page comic book story

with 5 panels each

and the commission is for 720$

but, I realised, while I'm good at drawing, I have no experience in actual comics

and It the commission was taking me waay longer than I expected

so I had to drop it

$60 page rate is actually pretty generous, although I may have to check on that.

What's the story?

well, yeah, I never thought that money was the problem, I am just unable to do it due to my university being a pain in the arse

It is an extract of the story about 2 guys, Benny and Simon, trying to sneak into a building to get an interview from a famous guy.
Turns out, the building is run by a drug cartel, and since they disguised themselves as part of the staff, they are now involved in some pretty nasty business.

The story actually seems to be pretty nicely developped

I don't know what to say other than get more used to drawing aesthetically pleasing comic books, because if the story's good, you could be drawing it for the next twenty years.

Most comic book guys are in it for the long haul.

It's a pretty solid career if you can devote the time to doing it.

I can definitely understand it being not compatible time-wise with college, it's a profession, and a great way to spend time doing something intensive that makes money in the long run.

Most modern comic book artists only do poorly because of politics and bad writing affecting their sales, it's more often the message that the book holds that's wrong rather than the artist.

Good story plus good art equals a living, so don't be afraid to turn down bad stories if it's not worth the effort.

What was his time-frame?

Well, unlimited for now... he's mostly trying to get some proof-of-concept stories done, so that he can show them off.

Really? And how far have you come? If he's not in any rush, it would be a great opportunity to teach him how long it takes when a college student is doing it in their spare time instead of as a profession.

It'll be a leaning moment for him and it'll be a boon for you too since you didn't flake out on him and waste his time.

Patrons are generally very generous when there's no set deadline.

I mean look at B Clay Moore! People have been waiting on his Kickstarter for FOUR YEARS and none of the cucks have called him out on it without being called Nazis.

It's not your full-time job, AND you're seeing it through anyway, that's a sign that you can turn it into a career and get business later.

That seems to be something college students don't understand, since modern school has taught them to multitask instead of devoting their life to doing one thing well, since that takes literally all your time.

I mean, doing multiple things is a good idea, but you have to be working towards a specific goal

And the more comics you do, the better you get at them. Being able to do what you're attempting now is the end-goal of art school.

It is the reason people go to college in the first place!

So yes, don't stress yourself. See it through, take as much time as is necessary to deliver a fantastic product.
