I've been screwed over by people who advertised too generously before.

2019-04-02 00:43:04 UTC

It's led to some pretty big fallout.

2019-04-02 00:43:12 UTC

What have they asked that you can't do?

2019-04-02 00:43:35 UTC

well, it's a 12 page comic book story

2019-04-02 00:43:42 UTC

with 5 panels each

2019-04-02 00:43:57 UTC

and the commission is for 720$

2019-04-02 00:44:49 UTC

but, I realised, while I'm good at drawing, I have no experience in actual comics

2019-04-02 00:45:22 UTC

and It the commission was taking me waay longer than I expected

2019-04-02 00:45:29 UTC

so I had to drop it

2019-04-02 00:46:26 UTC

$60 page rate is actually pretty generous, although I may have to check on that.

2019-04-02 00:47:12 UTC

What's the story?

2019-04-02 00:47:36 UTC

well, yeah, I never thought that money was the problem, I am just unable to do it due to my university being a pain in the arse

2019-04-02 00:49:47 UTC

It is an extract of the story about 2 guys, Benny and Simon, trying to sneak into a building to get an interview from a famous guy.
Turns out, the building is run by a drug cartel, and since they disguised themselves as part of the staff, they are now involved in some pretty nasty business.

2019-04-02 00:51:50 UTC

The story actually seems to be pretty nicely developped

2019-04-02 00:52:53 UTC

I don't know what to say other than get more used to drawing aesthetically pleasing comic books, because if the story's good, you could be drawing it for the next twenty years.

2019-04-02 00:53:04 UTC

Most comic book guys are in it for the long haul.

2019-04-02 00:53:48 UTC

It's a pretty solid career if you can devote the time to doing it.

2019-04-02 00:54:10 UTC

Yeah, It's just that I've got my own plans I need to pursue

2019-04-02 00:54:44 UTC

and I did not expect that 12 pages would take me such a ridiculously long time

2019-04-02 00:55:33 UTC

I can definitely understand it being not compatible time-wise with college, it's a profession, and a great way to spend time doing something intensive that makes money in the long run.

2019-04-02 00:56:12 UTC

Most modern comic book artists only do poorly because of politics and bad writing affecting their sales, it's more often the message that the book holds that's wrong rather than the artist.

2019-04-02 00:56:47 UTC

Good story plus good art equals a living, so don't be afraid to turn down bad stories if it's not worth the effort.

2019-04-02 00:58:43 UTC

yeah, this one seems good though, that's why I'm trying to help the guy out a little by looking for someone more suited for that kind of job than me

2019-04-02 00:59:18 UTC

What was his time-frame?

2019-04-02 01:00:32 UTC

Well, unlimited for now... he's mostly trying to get some proof-of-concept stories done, so that he can show them off.

2019-04-02 01:01:20 UTC

Really? And how far have you come? If he's not in any rush, it would be a great opportunity to teach him how long it takes when a college student is doing it in their spare time instead of as a profession.

2019-04-02 01:01:50 UTC

It'll be a leaning moment for him and it'll be a boon for you too since you didn't flake out on him and waste his time.

2019-04-02 01:02:25 UTC

Patrons are generally very generous when there's no set deadline.

2019-04-02 01:02:52 UTC

I mean look at B Clay Moore! People have been waiting on his Kickstarter for FOUR YEARS and none of the cucks have called him out on it without being called Nazis.

2019-04-02 01:03:37 UTC

It's not your full-time job, AND you're seeing it through anyway, that's a sign that you can turn it into a career and get business later.

2019-04-02 01:05:38 UTC

That seems to be something college students don't understand, since modern school has taught them to multitask instead of devoting their life to doing one thing well, since that takes literally all your time.

2019-04-02 01:06:32 UTC

Yeah, you're right

2019-04-02 01:07:00 UTC

I mean, doing multiple things is a good idea, but you have to be working towards a specific goal

2019-04-02 01:07:39 UTC

And the more comics you do, the better you get at them. Being able to do what you're attempting now is the end-goal of art school.

2019-04-02 01:07:55 UTC

It is the reason people go to college in the first place!

2019-04-02 01:10:06 UTC

So yes, don't stress yourself. See it through, take as much time as is necessary to deliver a fantastic product.

2019-04-02 01:14:02 UTC

Yeah, you know what? I think you're right

2019-04-02 01:14:09 UTC

I'll stay on board then
