i'm refering to the expression
This is called "Sunset Near Arizona" by Thomas Moran.
@MS gotcha. I've spent 30 hours on this painting and have looked at his work longer than that. I'm amazed at how great the Hudson River painters were. Bierstade, Church, Cole, Moran. They captured the American landscape in the most beautiful way.
Generally speaking, anyone at your level who calls themself a novice can seem insulting to those at a lower level. Make of that what you will, it's just something I've observed from when other good arty people I've known have called themselves novices.
No no no... That wasn't the feeling I was trying to convey.
You know how artists can be... Always (and unecessarily) comparing themselves to others when in fact they should be comparing themselves with their former selves who couldn't do much to begin with.
I prefer making fun of it. It's better to laugh that you can't do yet as good as your peer over there than tell yourself that your art is shit.
The artist can be very infantile y'know...
use angst to fuel passion
@juryrigging I hear ya. That wasn't my intention. Maybe a better word would be apprentice. @Jun I definitely notice my progress from complete beginner to where I am now. I
You could call yourself a journeyman artist 😛
I've reached a level of competence with certain things however, my drawings are much to be desired.
haha. lots to learn which is why I hesitate at labeling myself an artist. However, journeyman does sound better than novice.
I'll steal that. Journeyman artist.

Wait a second
He's saying WALES in every text chat
so people on twitter were complaining about women in art having waists that are too small, by saying "where are her organs" and "how is her back?" so i made fun of them in a song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo2xa3FTsmA
Its not like men have 'unrealistic body standards' in comic book characters who are stylized and heroicly preportioned...
*Cough*
next thing you know you will tell me anime characters are giving unrealistic standards to people because of their huge eyes
It's like art is subjective and don't have to be realistic, or something.
Started a new gouache tonight.
@Arkhan Black oh no, say it ain’t so! 🤣
hahaha
@Shamrock I'm afraid that this is the consensus that people have and that we live in the darkest timeline.
