I am speaking about things in the US, it is not practical for us to attempt to go mainstream when we are forbidden from ever doing so.

If you are not moving forward, then you need to adapt so that you can. At some point you need to have a plan to reach critical mass and make your theory become a more concrete reality.

Why should we spend the effort and money to get involved in politics when we are forbidden by law from doing so and most people involved in politics will refuse from even talking to us?

You don't necessarily need to use the political system (I wouldn't). If you have good theory and a vision for the future you would be able to get mainstream support. But since you can't, I have to question the merit of your ideology. Of course, this is very high standard, I can't claim to have the answers. But it stands as the truth nonetheless.
