being born with six fingers has nothing to do with the chromosomes that determine ones sex

2017-09-04 03:31:12 UTC

intersex is a combination of sex chromosomes that contradicts the sex binary

2017-09-04 03:31:23 UTC

it isn't just XX vs XY

2017-09-04 03:32:56 UTC

thats isn't what intersex is

2017-09-04 03:33:05 UTC

It could also be one less chromosome

2017-09-04 03:33:41 UTC

regardless their existence contradicts the binary

2017-09-04 03:34:10 UTC

a binary is composed of 2 mutually exhaustive and independent categories

2017-09-04 03:34:24 UTC

the fact that there are more than 2 categories, means that sex isn't a binary

2017-09-04 03:34:33 UTC

it doesn't matter that there isn't a "Z"

2017-09-04 03:34:45 UTC

sex is determined by combinations of chromosomes

2017-09-04 03:34:57 UTC

You're not making any sense

2017-09-04 03:35:15 UTC

does biological functionality define our concept of sex?

2017-09-04 03:35:37 UTC

You're making a value claim

2017-09-04 03:35:49 UTC

that has nothing to do with the sex binary

2017-09-04 03:36:13 UTC

I agree that humans would go exstinct if everyone was intersex, but that has nothing to do with my point

2017-09-04 03:36:21 UTC

sex isn't an ideal state of affairs

2017-09-04 03:36:26 UTC

its an existing state of affairs

2017-09-04 03:37:05 UTC

as for functionality, intersex people can be fertile in some cases

2017-09-04 03:37:10 UTC

that have functional sexual organs

2017-09-04 03:37:18 UTC

it isn't subjective

2017-09-04 03:37:35 UTC

sex refers to a combination of chromosomes

2017-09-04 03:37:49 UTC

can they have both functional organs tho

2017-09-04 03:37:53 UTC

it isn't tied to genitals

2017-09-04 03:38:43 UTC

sex isn't defined by genitalia

2017-09-04 03:38:48 UTC

you're changing your argument

2017-09-04 03:39:07 UTC

yeah because you're clearly biased from some reason

2017-09-04 03:41:26 UTC

yeah thats the point

2017-09-04 03:43:13 UTC

Well I don't think any of the definitions result in a binary. If something is somewhere between a penis and vagina it isn't really either.

2017-09-04 03:44:08 UTC

what would you classify it as?

2017-09-04 03:44:21 UTC

a third sexual category, would be definition

2017-09-04 03:44:27 UTC

seeing as it doesn't fit the binary

2017-09-04 03:45:20 UTC

you're really dodging the issue with your definition

2017-09-04 03:46:19 UTC

calling it a birth defect, or stating that their genitalia are dysfunctional has nothing to do with the implications on the sex binary

2017-09-04 03:46:25 UTC

it isn't subjective

2017-09-04 03:46:30 UTC

mine is the scientific definition

2017-09-04 03:46:38 UTC

confirmed by the sources you provided

2017-09-04 03:46:49 UTC

well thats a whole different issue

2017-09-04 03:47:06 UTC

and again scientifically speaking, gender is distinct from sex

2017-09-04 03:47:20 UTC

sex and gender aren'y synonyms

2017-09-04 03:48:05 UTC

the fact that trans people exist shows that people can have male chromosomes yet identify as the opposite sex. Researchers from brain structures that correspond to the opposite sex in trans people suffering from gender dysphoria.
