Switzerland has a distinct national identity that has existed since the middle ages though

2019-06-24 06:19:27 UTC

They may speak the languages of their neighbors, but that doesn't mean they are the same

2019-06-24 06:19:33 UTC

It's what you get when you mix German Italian Austrian and French

2019-06-24 06:19:51 UTC

Yeah but they're still mostly Germans. The Bavarians are still a part of Germany yet it still retains its regional culture

2019-06-24 06:19:59 UTC

I don't see a problem

2019-06-24 06:20:25 UTC

They are Germanic but not really Germans

2019-06-24 06:20:39 UTC

Because Switzerland is a very important geopolitical figure and European Nation

2019-06-24 06:20:45 UTC

If you start considering them German than why not Danes, Dutchmen, Swedes, Norwegians etc

2019-06-24 06:21:00 UTC

And what about the Sorbs?

2019-06-24 06:21:09 UTC

And German parts of Silesia?

2019-06-24 06:21:13 UTC

And Pomerania?

2019-06-24 06:21:30 UTC

Not entirely no, southern and Eastern Switzerland should be given to Italy and France respectively

2019-06-24 06:21:30 UTC

Rugia?

2019-06-24 06:21:55 UTC

Minor ethnicities are too irrelevant to have a stand alone nation

2019-06-24 06:21:55 UTC

Szczecin?

2019-06-24 06:22:08 UTC

Tell that to the HRE @Deleted User

2019-06-24 06:22:29 UTC

That wasn't a nation, it was

2019-06-24 06:22:31 UTC

Well

2019-06-24 06:22:36 UTC

The HRE wasn't really drawn along ethnic lines though

2019-06-24 06:22:40 UTC

A shitfest

2019-06-24 06:22:42 UTC

Lol

2019-06-24 06:22:48 UTC

It has several tiny nations

2019-06-24 06:22:53 UTC

Had

2019-06-24 06:23:03 UTC

Because it was a sort-of confederation

2019-06-24 06:23:13 UTC

I'm just saying

2019-06-24 06:23:21 UTC

Small nations could be protected by the bigger ones

2019-06-24 06:23:22 UTC

Sorbia if taken from Poland and Germany

2019-06-24 06:23:26 UTC

Might be fine

2019-06-24 06:23:27 UTC

Plus

2019-06-24 06:23:53 UTC

The HRE predates the idea of nationalism

2019-06-24 06:23:58 UTC

Well

2019-06-24 06:24:04 UTC

There was always nationalism

2019-06-24 06:24:10 UTC

I hate when people say that

2019-06-24 06:24:15 UTC

Until its very end of it's life

2019-06-24 06:24:42 UTC

You don't think people cared about if France survived?

2019-06-24 06:24:53 UTC

It wasn't the big multi ethnic society

2019-06-24 06:24:59 UTC

Like Germany

2019-06-24 06:25:27 UTC

But bavarians and the like cared about their identity

2019-06-24 06:25:55 UTC

Germany is an artificial concept

2019-06-24 06:25:56 UTC

Yeah there was nationalism amongst the nobility sometimes such as in Scotland where they didn't want to be ruled over by Anglos and started rebellions, but nationalism was nowhere close to the scale it would reach later

2019-06-24 06:26:09 UTC

I'm just saying
