Switzerland has a distinct national identity that has existed since the middle ages though
They may speak the languages of their neighbors, but that doesn't mean they are the same
It's what you get when you mix German Italian Austrian and French
Yeah but they're still mostly Germans. The Bavarians are still a part of Germany yet it still retains its regional culture
I don't see a problem
They are Germanic but not really Germans
Because Switzerland is a very important geopolitical figure and European Nation
If you start considering them German than why not Danes, Dutchmen, Swedes, Norwegians etc
And what about the Sorbs?
And German parts of Silesia?
And Pomerania?
Not entirely no, southern and Eastern Switzerland should be given to Italy and France respectively
Rugia?
Minor ethnicities are too irrelevant to have a stand alone nation
Szczecin?
Tell that to the HRE @Deleted User
That wasn't a nation, it was
Well
The HRE wasn't really drawn along ethnic lines though
A shitfest
It has several tiny nations
Had
Because it was a sort-of confederation
I'm just saying
Small nations could be protected by the bigger ones
Sorbia if taken from Poland and Germany
Might be fine
Plus
The HRE predates the idea of nationalism
Well
There was always nationalism
I hate when people say that
Until its very end of it's life
You don't think people cared about if France survived?
It wasn't the big multi ethnic society
Like Germany
But bavarians and the like cared about their identity
Germany is an artificial concept
Yeah there was nationalism amongst the nobility sometimes such as in Scotland where they didn't want to be ruled over by Anglos and started rebellions, but nationalism was nowhere close to the scale it would reach later
I'm just saying
