Message from Springbok in South African Border War: Operation Savannah #general-chat
We still use those rifle grenades
Another rifle grenade
Interesting wooden grips here with pattern 83 gear.
Weird how they still use the rifle grenades when underbarrel grenade launchers have been out for so long which offer a faster fire rate.
Another nutria R4
With the paint wearing off on the dust cover
Its faster and cheaper to use rifle grenades
And everyone can carry a couple extra
Also an underbarrel gl on an r4 would make it one really really heavy gun
True, the R4 being milled steel is certainly heavier than the mostly plastic M4
Not really because of that
Its the whole design
Long stroke piston
Bulky bolt carrier group
But its tough and it wont die
Is the galil animated yet?
Not yet. High poly model isn't finished yet.
Oh yeah cool, we were talking in Israel Defense Forces mod discord they might have an interest in that gun
Ah alright, ja not sure when it'll be done as I'm working on multiple assets simultaneously 😉
High poly is almost done though
Just a few issues with it that I need to sort out before I'm satisfied with it.
Sure thing I wonder how much gear IDF and ZA forces shared at that time
Quite a bit
Our M83 para helmet was based on an Israeli design I believe.
Same leather chin guard and all.
Of course R4 also being a Galil variant
Yeah this mod is gonna be modern IDF so I think CreativeRealms even said he would need a more modern Galil, but I suppose he could base it on the old one to make his, or use the old one as a stand in until the new one's in
Doesn't the modern IDF use the Tavor though?
Mostly yeah but Galil is still in use
Ah alright. Thought the Galil was no longer in use by the IDF.
Fun fact. South Africa produced several batches of the Galil for Israel prior to the 1990's.
I read there was even a Swedish variant lol
Modern Galil is still in use by border guards in Israel
I saw some content of the mod awhile back but haven't heard much since. Wasn't CreativeRealms streaming his modding sessions at one point?
Long time ago yeah, he's more on the mapping side right now, I think he's looking for an animator
