I thought Japan couldn’t have a military.

2021-03-11 15:56:33 UTC

no necessarily

2021-03-11 15:56:34 UTC

They can now, that was revisited not too terribly long ago I believe... before they could have “security forces” anyway

2021-03-11 15:59:39 UTC

The threat of communist China was and is still too much to just rely solely on all our resources.. I’m actually pretty glad they have some freedom to expand. More assets in the region to our advantage

2021-03-11 16:05:27 UTC

Is Germany also one of our allies?

2021-03-11 16:06:19 UTC

They are

2021-03-11 16:07:09 UTC

Through NATO as well

2021-03-11 16:12:28 UTC

ah

2021-03-11 16:13:39 UTC

but are they the Japan type ally, where we're on good terms with them and their leadership, or are they the France type of ally with the leader and some of the people being cunts about our way of doing things

2021-03-11 16:16:04 UTC

If you are to compare the two, then Japan is by far a closer and more vital ally.. Germany’s armed forces in total are only 64k thereabouts.. besides air defense capabilities they have nothing really to offer.. but the bigger connection to the European Union=NATO means they are important. Germany also houses a lot of US military personnel and assets

2021-03-11 16:24:09 UTC

Japan can have a military, however it is heavily restricted to being a Defense Force. They arent allowed to have an offensive army, full blown aircraft carriers, and cannot declare war unless in defensive action only

2021-03-11 16:31:03 UTC

With that said, their equipment and personnel are more than capable of being great offensive weapons if the need arose..each year their budget grows and discussions on less restrictions and wider “applications” for their equipment are brought up constantly. With the worlds 5th largest military budget, it’s on the way to becoming a great deterrent in the region

Basically our way of keeping Russia in check in Europe without actually doing anything

2021-03-11 16:42:37 UTC

That whole line of Eastern European nations are a staging point to keep Russia in check... some years back around the Ukraine incident and the buildup of Russian troops on eastern Europe’s border, brought a similar show of force from the US and some NATO nations. Both sides using military drills to posture

i played competitive for like the entire time i was on the game

2021-03-11 17:42:58 UTC

shit is cancer

2021-03-11 17:44:34 UTC

Militarily, we are on good terms with Germany. Not much else though. Japan is probably our greatest ally besides the UK.

2021-03-11 21:38:37 UTC

We definitely need Germany in Europe to be a solid partner

I just put this in <#801170142359978015>, but I need all the help I can get. I'm in my schools Speech and Debate team this year for state and the debate topic right now is "On balance, the benefits of creating the United States Space Force outweigh the harms"
Any thoughts?

2021-03-12 04:08:20 UTC

Well, if you consider the projection of us power into space to be a benefit, then that could be one.
Another is that it adds an extra layer of defense that isn't limited to combat within the earth's atmosphere. Perhaps another benefit is the expansion of space exploration.

2021-03-12 05:48:31 UTC

Yeah, I dont have space exploration but I can definitely talk about it. Right now all I have are points about the economy, space debris, and better opportunities, or at least availability for opportunities for cooperation between the private space sector (space x and nasa and other smaller ones) and the public one

2021-03-12 06:22:19 UTC

On the exceptionally rare situation that we do make some form of contact with aliens, it would be good to have some form of military force capable of operating in space

2021-03-12 06:23:19 UTC

on the more realistic hand, a space military gives another front Rival nations dont have the means to contest, meaning we could go straight past the issue of enemy navies and ground forces

2021-03-12 06:41:58 UTC

I kinda wanna know

2021-03-12 09:04:17 UTC

Wait is there any downside to a space force?

2021-03-12 15:17:14 UTC

not really, besides it being really expensive

2021-03-12 16:55:25 UTC

damn sucks to not have been doing PT for a whole month then getting back at it 😦

2021-03-12 17:23:27 UTC

working out has been a bit hard

2021-03-12 17:25:36 UTC

there is the argument that it could start an arms race with other countries, but really, that's a possibility with any and every military or weaponry advancement there ever has been. It may also cause temporary problems with the air force as its already very involved in space and upper atmosphere causing the air force to be weakened hence also our global military dominance along with it

2021-03-12 23:52:22 UTC

Believe it or not but this is an M60
