Yeah I would say if the sole purpose of the body armor is for when shtf, I would save up and get rifle rated ceramic plates.
In that instance almost everyone you would run into would have some kind of firearm firing a rifle cartridge.

@HUNTER4639 it's -30°C outside and I figured I'd see what would happen it I fired a shotgun outside. I took a quick drive out to the countryside and decided to give er a go. The two hammers froze in place by the time we had reached my buddies on property range.
