Who here has heard of the uncanny Valley effect?
Im not super familiar with it
but I understand the general sensation
like shit can be so scary that you couldn't scream if your wanted to
Kind of, but not to the extant that Meower's talking about, I've never been spooked to the point where I stay up over it. Other things, yes. But never this particular thing.
Do we wanna move this over to <#801313357113458698>
im down for that
All humans across the spectrum all have a flight response of something that's almost perfectly human but not quite perfect. Just enough to make humans fear it
And sure
the most terrifying feeling you'll ever have is reaching for a gun only for it to not be there
Oooooooooooh
Yeah I repeatedly had a dream where I would be with my family and something would attack us and I would draw my gun and it wouldn't fire.
Got to the point where I had to go on runs at nights so that I could clear my head and get to sleep.
Still occasionally have it, scares the shit out of me.
I don’t even remember my dreams
Normally I don't unless there nightmares that wake me up.
I drink to avoid my nightmares
Yeah for one I am to young to drink and two I grew up Baptist so my family doesn't really drink.
I drink because waking up 7-10 times a night doesnt work for me
I wish I didn't remember mine, they are the weirdest things ever.
Like alice in wonderland weird
or if I do, they oddly don't bother me. :/
Dreams are another fun thing to get into.
So, did you know that the left and right halves of the brain are separate, and you can function without one half so long as you have the other?
How to get rid of your right brain
We have the analytical side, and we have the creative side. But in order for us to function at peak capacity, those two sides need to have a dialogue with each other. The analytical brain isn't good at coming up with solutions for problems, it's only good for taking sensory data and making sense of it.
Right brain creates feelings and im tired of having them
So when you struggle with something in your life, your brain tries to find solutions to the problem. So what it does is the creative brain will try and find solutions while it's sleeping, and try to communicate those ideas to the analytical side. And that's what we know of as a dream.
At least, that is the leading theory.
The problem is that the creative side is feeding us raw ideas that the analytical side hasn't had time to make sense of, so it's just a bunch of images.
It's throughout the day that the subconscious brain will make sense of the dream, and turn all those images into a coherent formula for solving the problem.
I just got this today
Then why do I have dreams of bears on motorcycles hunting down Nazis?
so with rifles that say "property of u.s. govt", is there a way to prove that the gov. no longer owns them?
Well, a bear is an animal that's omnivorous, meaning it can survive on virtually anything. It usually just wants to be left alone, but if you piss it off you'll really wish it hadn't.
A motorcycle is a method of travel that is very fast but carries a high risk because it's extremely unstable.
A nazi tends to be an authoritarian who uses external physical characteristics of a person to justify their tyranny.
So we're looking at a creature that's highly self sufficient (and extremely dangerous if provoked) that's using an unstable but highly expedient method to hunt down authoritarians who justify their tyranny by relying on physical characteristics to identify those they oppress.
Does this sound like your life at all?
lmao, that's a hot take.
No not really. I'm just pointing out though we can try to interpret dreams we still don't often know the meaning behind many of them
At least in the field of psychology
Absolutely true.
I know nothing about dream interpretation, for what it's worth.
Well you gave it your best shot Trow
That's all you can ever really do
