the gold plates originated in jerusalem in the 600 BC’s or so, they were records of the family of Lehi. Lehi saw a vision in jerusalem around 600 BC. In his vision jerusalem was ransacked and destroyed, and the city was in chaos and turmoil, so he told him, his spouse, and his children (sam, laman, lemuel, and Nephi)
To flee from jerusalem and go to north america, and not bring any of their valuables with them.
Lehi received a compass looking thing from god to show him the way, and god said he would give them instructions.
But then god gave them one more instruction to do in jerusalem, which was to get the golden plates from king laban. Who had the golden plates at the time. Nephi, Laman, Lemuel, and sam all went to do this, Laman and Lemuel constantly loss faith and did stuff and an angel stopped them. It took 3 attempts for them to get the golden plates, when god told Nephi to chop Laban’s head off with his own sword. So they got the golden plates, met a family and a servant of Laban, who they offered to invite on their journey to north america. and then god told them how to build a boat, I won’t get into details cuz that would take hours but once they got to north america they grew and formed a society, the golden plates were passed down from generation to generation, recording wars between the Lamanites (descendants of laman and lemuel) and Nephites (desendants of Nephi and Sam), they fought for a good 600 years in many different conflicts, until the lamanites wiped out the nephites in 400 AD, the last nephite was named “Mormon”, and he wrote the last part of the Book of mormon, then god told him to burry it on hill camora, and prophesied that one day, a foreign civilization led by god will come to north america and wipe out the lamanites by the millions.
about 1100 years later, the lamanites had become the incans and aztecs and stuff, worshipping many false gods, the spanish came and wiped them out by the millions.
