I think RDR 2 story mode handled religion perfectly, the Nun / Mother Superior Calderón, offers support for no reward or personal gain, she tries to calm him and when her wooden cross is stolen, she is worried for thee boys health above all else. She just wanted to spread the word of god to everyone and help as many people as she can, she is excited for. She offers consolation to him and tries to insure him that "life is full of pain, but there is also love and beauty" She even becomes personal with him "
