Or maybe ruling some third world country as a neocolonial filibustering despot.

2021-01-28 03:57:47 UTC

Thats not the point.

2021-01-28 03:58:02 UTC

I have more preferences than pain or pleasure.

2021-01-28 04:01:32 UTC

If you take pleasure and pain as every will and preference then it is my belief that basically every ideology can be reduced to that.

2021-01-28 04:04:35 UTC

Whatever. Let me better ask you what maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain looks like to you

2021-01-28 04:04:48 UTC

I am talking about this because it is a core feature of my worldview.

2021-01-28 04:04:53 UTC

Sure I will answer that.

2021-01-28 04:04:57 UTC

I could tell.

2021-01-28 04:05:37 UTC

The political positions I support are designed to maximize pleasure and minimize pain for all people.

2021-01-28 04:05:54 UTC

I could do a long explanation of what this looks like on each individual issue.

2021-01-28 04:06:10 UTC

We can go with a social issue as that will probably be the simplest.

2021-01-28 04:09:15 UTC

I could go through another thread of discussion but it is better that I choose the following since it is topical for a schmittian server. Why do you think that you can maximize pleasure for a group without increasing pain for some other?

2021-01-28 04:16:31 UTC

I'm going to sleep good night.

2021-01-28 04:16:37 UTC

gn

2021-01-28 04:16:47 UTC

I'm not schmittian but I fw em tho

2021-01-28 04:23:39 UTC

Goodbye then

2021-01-28 04:24:10 UTC

"nobody cares" most of you guys sure do seem to care which isn't a bad thing.

2021-01-28 04:24:19 UTC

isn't that like a contradiction

2021-01-28 04:24:59 UTC

no

2021-01-28 04:25:20 UTC

it didnt rlly make sense tho

2021-01-28 04:25:25 UTC

idk wat he was referring 2

2021-01-28 04:25:50 UTC

An good example would be something like a vaccination which causes some slight pain but is beneficial for preventing further pain down the road.

2021-01-28 04:26:48 UTC

still inflicting pain

2021-01-28 04:28:10 UTC

Yes it may sound strange but in this case causing pain can significantly lessen pain and give the opportunity for more pleasure in the future.

2021-01-28 04:28:19 UTC

🤯

2021-01-28 04:28:37 UTC

it doesn't sound strange at all, it just sounds strange within your moral framework

2021-01-28 04:29:58 UTC

It really shouldn't. My approach seeks to minimize pain and maximize pleasure. Sometimes as is the case with the vaccination causing some slight pain minimizes pain enough to be useful.

2021-01-28 04:31:13 UTC

if pain can be beneficial and pleasure harmful, that should point towards a more fundamental value than pleasure vs. pain

2021-01-28 04:34:03 UTC

Pain is useful when it maximizes pleasure to a great enough extent in the long term. Pleasure can be bad if it increased pain to greater degree in the long term.

2021-01-28 04:37:16 UTC

This still follows my original idea as it minimizes pain and maximizes pleasure in the long term

2021-01-28 04:37:55 UTC

what if maximising pleasure is a self-detonating concept because you need psychologically to feel pain, and only feeling pleasure numbs your ability to feel pleasure

2021-01-28 04:38:30 UTC

Well in that case their is a lack of pleasure and likely some pain involved meaning that I would not want that to happen.

2021-01-28 04:38:32 UTC

it is not a coherent concept

2021-01-28 04:39:01 UTC

When you don't simplify it to much I think it is perfectly coherent.

2021-01-28 04:39:37 UTC

Some of it seems a little paradoxical at first but I personally think that for the most part it is pretty coherent.

2021-01-28 04:43:20 UTC

you started this by saying pain should be abolished
