there's this thing called herd immunity

if everyone who is able to be is vaccinated, the viruses (for example) have a lot more trouble spreading because almost every person they get to is able to fight them before they have a chance to "reproduce", meaning that they wont pass to someone else

this means that someone that is not able to get a vaccine has a much much much lower chance of being infected, simply because the virus is a lot rarer

this only works if a big big majority of people are immunized

with the numbers of people refusing to get vaccines rising, this defense that we have is crumbling

and diseases that we once tought were near extinct are coming back

as a bonus, by being infected we give the viruses a chance to mutate, meaning that one day, one of them may stumble upon a way to change its structure in a way that prevents the antibodies that vaccines "teach" our bodies to produce from detecting the now different virus
