@galesteppes I see the importance of religion. In fact right now we're seeing the results of rampant hedonism without moral guidance.

2019-04-24 03:01:30 UTC

but all of europe and etc. were built by quite religious men

2019-04-24 03:01:34 UTC

I do

2019-04-24 03:02:05 UTC

But there's also a problem of dogmatic absolutism.

2019-04-24 03:02:28 UTC

I believe it would have been developed more quickly if most of the alchemists weren't executed.

2019-04-24 03:02:37 UTC

isaac newton himself

2019-04-24 03:02:41 UTC

was an alchemist

2019-04-24 03:02:41 UTC

Big if true

2019-04-24 03:02:43 UTC

and very religious

2019-04-24 03:02:50 UTC

wanna exclude him?

2019-04-24 03:02:52 UTC

Newton was legendary.

2019-04-24 03:02:59 UTC

Their religion betrayed them.

2019-04-24 03:03:06 UTC

At least the org

2019-04-24 03:03:28 UTC

I don't care about individual religious people

2019-04-24 03:03:43 UTC

Copernicus.

2019-04-24 03:03:50 UTC

I don't like institutions and preachers that build up power

2019-04-24 03:04:12 UTC

It took until what... recently for the Catholic church to forgive him for being scientifically right?

2019-04-24 03:04:21 UTC

Basically

2019-04-24 03:05:21 UTC

Catholic Church has who knows how many holy documents it is keeping from all of Christendom, that they themselves don't even know the extent of it.

2019-04-24 03:05:56 UTC

Religion becomes too powerful unopposed.

2019-04-24 03:06:07 UTC

Did the Catholic Church ever apologize for the treatment of Galileo?

2019-04-24 03:06:36 UTC

Some priests have but only Pope can speak for the church

2019-04-24 03:08:22 UTC

Took a lot longer to forgive Copernicus though.

2019-04-24 03:08:36 UTC

Pope John Paul ii is most based Pope.

2019-04-24 03:24:29 UTC

@galesteppes idk dude. That's complicated AF.

I mean.... when you conceive a child you're doing so under the assumption that it will be healthy and self sustaining eventually.

So.... maybe you can have an abortion on the grounds of breakage of contract?

2019-04-24 03:24:37 UTC

<:think_madpepe:378717098630971395>

2019-04-24 03:25:05 UTC

Mmmmm good ole eugenics

2019-04-24 03:28:17 UTC

Imagine trying to argue that people with mental illnesses aren't people. Guess what, lots of otherwise normal people have mental illnesses. Which mental illnesses are you ruling out and why? Have you ever met any of these people yourself?

2019-04-24 03:29:19 UTC

I think there's a duty to the society to let such people have a chance to live to their best ability.

2019-04-24 03:29:26 UTC

Just as anyone else.

2019-04-24 03:29:29 UTC

Mainly Down's syndrome and similar is what I mean

2019-04-24 03:29:49 UTC

But given their mental illnesses have a duty to support them to live comfortably should it be impossible for them for whatever reason.

2019-04-24 03:30:01 UTC

Downies can be cool as fuck dog.

2019-04-24 03:30:24 UTC

Who has that duty?

2019-04-24 03:30:30 UTC

Society as a whole.

2019-04-24 03:30:44 UTC

Oh, you missed a word

2019-04-24 03:31:01 UTC

In the same way that if we decide a person needs to be removed from society to serve in prison they need to support that person humanely until such time they are released.

2019-04-24 03:31:16 UTC

That's like.... your opinion man

2019-04-24 03:31:40 UTC

Ok fine, have fun with no prisons or only execution for criminals that don't get way with just a fine.
