who'd a thought.
Eh. Iraq was a mixture. Saddam had begun to abandon secularism because his army was in shambles and radical islamists were gaining ground in his territories. This lead him to saying moronic things about (and to in the case of some threats) america and the west, when we were already in a war with people saying similar things. As well, he was being a nuesence to the UN and US inspectors, and not following the agreements laid out.
But yes, he did have Chemical weapons...Much to the dismay of many.
The issue is the MSM kept spinning that WMDs ONLY meant Nuclear weapons...when no one governmentally claimed they had nuclear. Even when the US approached the UN on it, the only claim was chemical.
To be honest, I wouldn't doubt all of his actions in the end...were an attempt of escape from his situation. And he probably believed he would be kept captive for life or somesuch.
@Goblin_Slayer_Floki Well we knew Saddam had chemical weapons way back in the 80s.
It was Netanyahu that specifically said he had nukes, and that was the narrative that was repeated
Not by the US gov. Nor was it a part of the hearing by Powell in the UN. The reasoning was the threats and the fact he had serine gas when he was supposed to have disposed of it, along with his resistance to inspectors.
That narrative was mostly MSM and I guess Netanyaho. The issue is it became the only thing synonymous with "WMDs" in the uninformed mind.
But the consent of the populace was granted by this bait and switch.
Nukes = threat to US
Chemical weapons = another third world asshole
Hell, why do you think they used the term 'WMD' so often?
That bait and switch wasnt the US Gov however. It was the MSM. Who shirked responsibility when they didnt have them, which was never claimed. The issue was Saddam signed a treaty to dismantle and dispose of all chem weapons.
Because it's a military term
nukes sells more newspapers then some boring chemical gas that will only affect the locals
The govt is always complicit in MSM falsities about govt actions.
They did not actively correct the record, and proceeded anyways with the knowledge that uninformed people thought we were stopping potential nuclear attacks on the US.
Hell, how many low level politicians were just as uninformed?
This is a blatant lie by omission
the msm was doing it work just perfectly as the government did want a war but did need an good excuse to do so. so why correct them
Or maybe the people were complicit as well
The UN meetings were televised
How many people watch CSPAN? 12?
Im willing to say less the 0,001% of the population did watch that
Ignorance isn't an excuse
You know full well most of these people are not at fault for parroting the Russian conspiracy
Jeeze, the nerve of you
The issue is. Even today when people are corrected they still go "Nu Uh" It is the same cock in mouth game people use still with the Russia bs
I never thought I'd hear Iraq war apologetics from you. Clown world for sure
Was I a fan of the war after going there? No. But will that mean I will let people spout ignorance because they couldn't be bothered to do research? No.
You can't look at this through a modern lens
Watching the mainstream news WAS research
There was no internet video
It pisses me off, because a lot of the people who still to this day spout the nonsense on the WMDs , even though it was MSM driven, tend to be the same ones admonishing the MSM for Russiagate
There were files...The UN records were public
Basically they fell for one con, while finger wagging another
Lots of stuff is public record.
An overwhelming majority of people aren't autistic enough to go to their library and dig up archives of current events in order to fact check the nightly news
What an asshole perspective Jesus christ
After 13 years?
the average person dont look up where he will get the most cheep insurance. you think he look up WMD in iraq. they just dont care
You realize people STILL claim the same bs
No, I'm talking about while it was happening.
Youtube has been around since before 2007
