many native indigenous are part of the protest

Good reforms, or bad?

I ask, because Ecuador is a socialist backwater

I've not been following it closely enough

If you have to ask, its another scoop of socialism

From what I'm reading so far, the President Lenín Moreno has made economic reforms to liberalise the economy

-lifting of tariffs on imports of computer and mobile devices
-flexibilising the labour market
-subsidies for 300,000 families

but this comes at the cost of heavy austerity measures which mostly affects the native populations. In particular the liberalisation of the diesel prices means that there no longer will be a diesel subsidy which they depend on (1.300 million dollars a year).

what we call human rights in the west, have been carved out and defended with countless life's in the past

And in a state of nature, you would defend with your life the things that a normal person would state you have a right to

Well I mean you can't really defend if you're a slave in an authoritarian country

That's why we go to war for breaches of human rights
