If you look back at Australia's history though they never really have had a problem with shootings, the amount they currently have after the law change isn't any change from what it had been for a long time before the law change.

Gun ownership geographically has no impact on homicide rate
There is no correlation between legal gun ownership and crime
In fact the inverse is true, the places with the strictest gun laws have the worst crime
ive done stupid s††† in my city i'd never pull somewhere where people actually own guns and shoot trespassers
As the final nail in the coffin, despite the fact gun ownership in the US is 3 times the rate it was in 1950, homicide is the lowest it's ever been
If you exclude "problem cities" the US crime rate is comparable to western europe or even better
