China is an authoritarian country yes, however economically speaking they have a higher GDP and higher economic growth than the US.

The average Chinese person is poor as shit simply because the state is essentially a 2 class system

China almost entirely lacks a middle class

This is where it is behind the US

China has a much lower standard of living for the average citizen

Again, China isn't a nice place to live by any stretch of the imagination. However, they are an economic powerhouse when it comes to the nation as a whole.
