If individual cities could compete with sales taxes, that could draw customers to different areas

whats even the best way to tax

a problem with that is to who gets the money from the sales tax

here different states got disproportionate cuts of the sales tax

Also, sales tax is voluntary, because you are deciding to purchase. Income tax is not voluntary

The proprieter isn't being taxed, just the customer.

If the business had an income tax as well, then the state would be collecting the customers sales tax, as well as the businesses income tax

Double dipping

the argument is is that it hits poor people harder than rich cause food basically

the idea is that rich people could buy the same amount and just horde money

but yeah income tax can be really dumb like that

i mean cause sales tax in theory is better for super richies who pay most of the tax

so they use income tax

but income tax for people who aren't super rich is a bit silly

here where i live their excuse for it is that 'it stops use'

high tobaco and alcohol tax is a blessing to the people that smuggles it. did read a few years back that 40% of tobaco that is smoked in norway is not taxed in any way. smugles is making a killing from the insane high tax on tobaco

yeah that was a massive russian mafia scam

and a few years ago in the UK i believe it was 90% of tobacco was smuggled

the issue i have most with it is that their reasoning is is that they are 'helping these people' when they are just jewing off them

yea, it dont help at all, most alcholics get it fix taxastion or not, it a reason why you can get a bottle of russian vodka for the same as 6 pack of shity beer if you know where to ask
