The Rio Pact is a mutual defense pact

2018-09-04 00:57:50 UTC

I don't care? lol

2018-09-04 00:58:27 UTC

I mean, Latin America without the US aiding in its defense seems like a recipe for disaster in my opinion

2018-09-04 00:59:02 UTC

They're big boys now. They can handle themselves. Chile, Argentina, and Brazil have it covered pretty well these days.

2018-09-04 00:59:45 UTC

~~Now, if not paying us tax dollars is your opposition, I know a solution that starts with "A" and rhymes with "-nexation"~~

2018-09-04 01:01:06 UTC

Well I hope so. I don't want any additional inch of the Americas going to the Old World powers.

2018-09-04 01:03:13 UTC

In fact, ideally, I'd quite like areas like Canada to become republics that ditch the European head of state, and perhaps ideally for French Guyana, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, and the small Caribbean possessions to get swallowed up by a nation around them or seek independence

2018-09-04 01:03:20 UTC

You don't follow what goes on down south much, do you?

2018-09-04 01:04:13 UTC

I know Venezuela's a shitshow and the big economic split is currently between the Pacific Alliance and MERCOSUR, and that Brazil's upcoming election is top memes, but beyond that I'd thoroughly like to learn more.

2018-09-04 01:05:09 UTC

Yeah, well, the 'ABC' (Argentina, Brazil, Chile) has more of their shit together these days than half of Europe it seems

2018-09-04 01:05:33 UTC

Oh yeah, I know the ABC countries from the Dreadnought Race and War Plan Red

2018-09-04 01:06:44 UTC

I've also heard that it seems Colombia now gets blamed for the traditionally more CIA-esque activities, such as trying to blow up Maduro with a drone

2018-09-04 01:06:57 UTC

Brazil is about to elect a Latino Trump, and build a norther border wall with Venezuela, Colombia has signed a truce with the guerillas and ceased fighting, and more

2018-09-04 01:06:59 UTC

though Colombia is also really US-aligned from what I've heard

2018-09-04 01:07:23 UTC

I hear the shit going on along the Brazil/Venezuela border is fucked

2018-09-04 01:07:46 UTC

So yeah, tell me again how the US should "assert it's dominance" in a region it doesn't even belong?

2018-09-04 01:07:54 UTC

and that the leading Brazilian presidential candidate's VP candidate advocated for/defended the idea of selling parts of the Amazon to the US

2018-09-04 01:08:04 UTC

it a warzone where brazil have closed the border to venezuela

2018-09-04 01:09:14 UTC

I figure that it's in all of the American republics' best interests to close up any potential land front for when Europe once again does what Europe is tend to do

2018-09-04 01:09:31 UTC

Europe won't *do* anything.

2018-09-04 01:09:54 UTC

They'll just wither away as Muslims overtake them in birthrate

2018-09-04 01:10:09 UTC

My concern is what a muslim Europe will do

2018-09-04 01:10:19 UTC

🤷🏻 Not my problem

2018-09-04 01:10:25 UTC

The whole thing the monroe doctrine was meant for was to keep europe out of the americas

2018-09-04 01:10:26 UTC

Let's keep it that way

2018-09-04 01:10:38 UTC

because French Guiana *is* a part of the EU

2018-09-04 01:11:12 UTC

You think Muzzies are organized enough to assert Naval dominance in the Atlantic?

2018-09-04 01:11:16 UTC

so if France does something stupid, that becomes Suriname's and Brazil's problem, I'd argue

2018-09-04 01:11:35 UTC

At the time of the monroe doctrine europe had some territories in south america still.

2018-09-04 01:11:41 UTC

Iirc

2018-09-04 01:11:43 UTC

They still do

2018-09-04 01:11:51 UTC

North America arguably as well

2018-09-04 01:11:57 UTC

with Canada sharing a monarch with the UK

2018-09-04 01:12:02 UTC

@RMS_Gigantic French Guiana is as much "France" as American Samoa is American

2018-09-04 01:12:12 UTC

It just prevevented then from expanding

2018-09-04 01:13:28 UTC

@Goblin_Slayer_Floki Aye, which is why the US almost went to war against Britain in 1895 over British Guyana trying to expand its border into Venezuela

2018-09-04 01:13:49 UTC

How does France do something "stupid"? With what?

2018-09-04 01:14:53 UTC

Border incursions, I'd argue in a realistic sense

2018-09-04 01:15:04 UTC

*In the Caribbean.*

2018-09-04 01:15:08 UTC

lol

2018-09-04 01:15:31 UTC

I've heard French Guyana compared more to Hawaii than American Samoa
