ok, courts

2019-09-06 01:28:44 UTC

so, if there's courts, then democracy is limited by it

2019-09-06 01:28:57 UTC

the example you gave is direct democracy where the majority just over rules everything

2019-09-06 01:29:00 UTC

that's one kind of democracy

2019-09-06 01:29:17 UTC

there's different kinds

2019-09-06 01:29:36 UTC

just like there's different republics - technically, nazi germany was a republic if you define it by how it got its legitimacy

2019-09-06 01:30:01 UTC

yeah its some weird shit

2019-09-06 01:30:26 UTC

i know, but it's true - simply saying 'We are a republic' or 'we are democracy' isn't enough

2019-09-06 01:30:38 UTC

you have to say something like

2019-09-06 01:30:51 UTC

"our democracy has limitations outlined by law" or whatever

2019-09-06 01:31:05 UTC

and there's no specific name you can put on it other than maybe US democracy

2019-09-06 01:31:05 UTC

The rule of law is supreme to all decisions, yes courts but also the legal system and other kinds of checks and balances.

It's should be all about personal liberty and freedom and allowing the people to be together or left alone by each other and/or the government.

2019-09-06 01:31:55 UTC

ok

2019-09-06 01:31:59 UTC

i agree

2019-09-06 01:32:34 UTC

but when you say "US isn't democracy, it's a republic" it kind of gets people confused

2019-09-06 01:32:35 UTC

You libtards are just disagreeing on what to call it

2019-09-06 01:32:39 UTC

since it's innaccurate

2019-09-06 01:32:41 UTC

yeah, we are

2019-09-06 01:32:47 UTC

but gotta get those definitions just right

2019-09-06 01:32:54 UTC

because fucking debates are gay like that

2019-09-06 01:32:58 UTC

what can i say

2019-09-06 01:33:10 UTC

debating isn't something cool kids do

2019-09-06 01:33:14 UTC

unless you're in a private school

2019-09-06 01:33:16 UTC

The good kinda gay

2019-09-06 01:33:16 UTC

Democracy never shows up in the constitution or bill of rights.

2019-09-06 01:33:18 UTC

I agree

2019-09-06 01:33:23 UTC

the nerdy kind of gay

2019-09-06 01:33:45 UTC

They made sure America was not and could not be a democracy.

2019-09-06 01:33:57 UTC

oh, well maybe you're going by 18th century language

2019-09-06 01:34:14 UTC

but by modern parlance, there's different kinds of democracy

2019-09-06 01:34:20 UTC

the oldest kind is direct democracy

2019-09-06 01:34:22 UTC

athenian democracy

2019-09-06 01:34:34 UTC

which you have to specifically cite so that people know what you mean

2019-09-06 01:36:29 UTC

in the 18th century, most countries were monarchies, they only knew about ancient greek democracy, and the italian city states weren'

2019-09-06 01:36:34 UTC

really democracies by modern definition either

2019-09-06 01:36:50 UTC

but they were republics, so that's different - and in 18th century, they thought of it as different too

2019-09-06 01:37:04 UTC

even so, the definition of democracy has stretched in modern times, and modern language understands it as such

2019-09-06 01:37:16 UTC

you can't keep using old language

2019-09-06 01:37:23 UTC

just because you're conservative

2019-09-06 01:37:31 UTC

things change regardless

2019-09-06 01:37:53 UTC

Democracy comes from latin.
Demos Kraten
=People To Rule
The rule of the people.
