Honestly, not the experience in Australia. For example, they introduced sweeping firearms legislation and confiscation in one fell swoop. Same thing is happening in NZ.

Things is, Australia doesn't really care about freedom much anyway.
In the US people actually care, so they had to curtail that liberty slowly, like you described.
But some of that shit has sunset, and people are pushing back.
The makeup of SCOTUS has changed, and will continue to do so.

At first, the court decided to absolve him because they understood that the slaps were justified and no harm was intended. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is defending that they judged it with "gender perspective" to "stop domination-like behavior". 🤦🏻
Local court = 40 days of social work
Regional court = nothing
Supreme court = jail now, trial later
BTW, the amount of slaps was TWO. Not two dozens, just 1&2. Fuck me, I hate my country.
The sexualization of animals in cartoons is surely an interesting topic.
